Stuttering
So I JUST got this today as a birthday present and it is stuttery and laggy as all hell. I've said the resolution a couple of notches lower than my PC's actual resolution and set all the graphics as low as they'll go, but it hasn't helped. I checked and my PC's specs are more than adequate, I have plenty of hard drive space(an SSD, I might add) and even did everything here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/baldurs-gate-3-stuttering-lags-freezing/ that I could(while still letting the game launch, as administrator mode makes it crash every time) and it's STILL unplayable. Can anyone help?

It is playing right? So technically the minimum specs are enough to get you in the game. That said the "Recommended" specs list "Processor: Intel i7 8700K" as the CPU which is a 6 core CPU while yours is a 4 core cpu. So yeah, sadly your CPU is the limiting factor here as others have already said. Turn everything all the way down if you want to prioritize performance.

EDIT: Your GPU is also below the recommended specs.

Happy Birthday to you!

Let me know if you have a medium powered PC. Then I shall add some more stuff like deactivating Windows' visuals for "game mode" and using O&OShutup10++
If you follow the guide properly, you should notice some significant changes.

Make sure to pay extra attention to the cooling, as especially laptops' throtteling functions will kick in faster than you can roll a critical. The cooling has a critical role, after all.
Also, it seems you have exactly the same kind of PC like me - only that I have a desktop PC. No stutterings. Have fun and happy adventuring! :spacehamster:
Thank you, I'll try those, too.

Good luck bro!

Hopefully that guide helps you, this game is worth a play.

How warm does your Laptop get? High CPU usage => lots of heat => CPU throttles down => game stutters

I sadly started to stutter recently with this patch/hotfix #4. Zero issues before.

It does get kind of hot when playing games.

The game is also on an external SSD, but that shouldn't make a difference, right?

The only thing there that could be a issue would be the overhead from the USB controller, but that's *tiny*. And even USB 2.0 is 480mb/s, so data rate should be fine. I'd highly doubt that's your culprit, but you could try copying it to an internal drive to rule it out.

Thanks.

No, I checked and it definitely CAN run the game. My specs are
Processor: Intel Core i7-7700HQ
8 threads - 2.8 GHz
Graphics Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
6 GB VRAM
Memory:
16 GB RAM
Random Access Memory

I got this from a website that checks and compares a computer's specs to different games and it said all of these were good enough for Baldur's Gate 3.

From the Store page. Your CPU and GPU are below the recommended specs. While you'll be able to play the game since they're above minimum don't expect a good time. Turn everything to the lowest graphical settings may help.

RECOMMENDED:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Processor: Intel i7 8700K / AMD r5 3600
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia 2060 Super / RX 5700 XT (8GB+ of VRAM)
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 150 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD required

For what it's worth, it was playing perfectly smoothly for me last weekend, and now I can't seem to get it to stop lagging no matter how much I lower the settings. I've tried restarting my computer and quitting all other apps (even though it was running smoothly alongside other apps last weekend), to no avail.

If the stuttering is gone with that, then you know some game files needs to be cleaned out

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions!

Is there a way to bypass the launcher? That made Midnight Suns run smoothly when I played that.

only thing I can add is to disable steam cloud - i had a similar issue where i had extremely long save times, stuttering and models t-posing while the game was loading assets. i disabled steam cloud and it seemed to rectify the issue almost immediately, and not had any reoccurrence since
