act 3 deserves its criticism. but let it not deter you. I hate Act 3 but I can assure you, you will still have fun.. don't expect Act 1 polish and good endings.
about metatritic idk, but i still consider fallout new vegas as a better game than bg3.
fallout 1 and 2 are also better than bg3. but im a fallout fanboy so im biased.
fallout 1 faces urgency, a thing i dont enjoy while playing but it was great more possibilities than bg3 and the game have the same urgency thing, fallout 2 had not that sensation great wolrd building an story.
now fallout new vegas. has the BEST combination of all times. a decent story, but the urgency is on your own, you dont have a timed bomb in your head forcing you to fail and do meaningless quest, because that is what happens, you expend the entire game looking for a cure for your tadpole, and that is the last objetive...
but you have that as a priority why even explore the world, why play the game why do anything else that get the tadpole out of your head. new vegas give you a free new start to do whatever you want and you will eventually get to the main quest no matter what you decide, but not because you have an urgency but because while playing your search for power, influence or just money got you there.
It would have been more honest if it was named Divinity Original Sin 3.
Elden Ring is far more entertaining than BG3, and not because of the PVP... although it didn't hurt anything.
That being said, BG3 is still new. As awesome as this game is, it's not my all time favorite. Maybe one day it will be, who knows? I do know that I am really enjoying it now.
edit: After re-reading the OP...
I would make the case for Skyrim being a better RPG for a lot of people because it was pretty groundbreaking and defining for when it came out. I think it is easy to look at it now and point out a thousand flaws because most fans have been over every inch of that game several times I'm sure.
Speaking for myself, it's one of the few games I have replayed dozens of times and had unique and fun experiences each time. I'll admit that mods made a lot of those experiences more unique. The last time I played through it, I was using mods that made it play like Sekuro, which gave me an altogether unique experience.
It's pretty difficult to compare RPGs that are so totally different from each other. BG3, is probably the best CRPG that I've ever played. I've not played them all. But I have played a lot of them. Granted, I've played a lot of them many years after they came out, so I didn't experience them in the same way that other people have. For instance, I just played BG1 and BG2 on the the new xbox or ps5 a few months ago while waiting for the BG3 release. I honestly didn't care for them much at all. I think I enjoyed the Path of Exile games much more. I feel like the pathfinder games are really good in terms of customizing character builds, probably better than BG3. But BG3 has a much better story, IMO and from what I've seen so far at least, than the pathfinder games.
I'd say that I'm liking the BG3 story much better than the Skyrim story. But the freedom of who you could be in Skyrim is pretty awesome. Overall, I'd say it's pretty tough to come up with a best RPG, much easier to come up with a top 5 in no particular order.
Give people time to ends it, act 3... and the ending... meh, rest 9/10
Well, it depends...
Its and old game from different times...
How to explain this...
Imagine that 'BG3' is something like "Game of Thrones" right...
then
'Baldurs Gate 2' is something like old legends about King Arthur
PS: You dont need to play Baldurs Gate 1, real mania actualy started when Baldurs Gate 2 was released.
no
that said, I do recommend the Owlcat Pathfinder games, Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous to anyone who enjoyed BG3. it's more min-maxy and more mechanically dense and not as cinematically pretty but the polished up definitive versions of those games are excellent romps that make up for looks and ease with depth
Felt like there was a better flow to the mechanics and prefer lots of written dialogue over more sparse voiced dialogue.
Also, if possible, stay away from the Enhanced Editions and go get the classic ones and then apply mods.
