Illusion of Choice, 17,000 Endings? (SPOILERS...DUH)
Okay so let me just say, after completing the game with around 220 hours played I feel like I am enough of an authority on this game to speak...

This game has 3 meaningful choices. The rest don't matter. The lie about 17,000 different endings relates to the permutations of active companions, and who you "assemble" for the final battle, but have ZERO impact beyond being able to call them in for support.

You get a 3 second "meeting" with all of them in a "Give us a heroic speech" moment before the battle starts, and that is it.

There is no epilogue explaining...

"The Ironhand survived with the Hero's help and went on to rebuild Baldur's Gate..."

"With Rolan in charge of the tower knowledge of the Arcane flowed freely in the city..."

"The Wavemothers assisted Gale in recovering the Crown, which he took to Mystra..."

"Shadowheart did exactly what she said she would do, and moved to Red Larch, to live in peace..."

... etc etc ...

(Obviously those are just some examples)

Literally EVERY OTHER CRPG has a "Here are your choices and how they effected the game" moment, but BG3 doesn't.

On top of that, the game only has 3 real choices, the rest only augment the final one, but don't actually change it.

1. Trust or Betray the Emperor
2. Become a Mind-flayer or Don't
3. Control the Brain or Destroy the Brain

Thats it. The entire game is split down the middle of "Good or Bad" but you can flip the entire script at any point, or be a good guy all the way to the end but still go full megalomaniac bad guy.

Honestly, this is lazier then Mass Effect 3...at least it had 3 endings...and an epilogue.
(And later a pretty amazing DLC that fixed the ending)

I don't understand how people can play this game, get tot he end, realize none of your "choices" matter and still think this is a "Game of the Decade".

It's a solid 8.3 and not a sliver more. (In its current state)

EDIT 1:

So to be clear, I wasn't expecting 17,000 endings, I knew from the start that this was an exaggeration, I would have been contented with like...4 or 5 different and unique endings, but you get 2.

yeah op is right. the games great, but it feels rushed for act3 and the ending stuff. And yes ever good crpg has a storyboard for every single major choice you made and how it effected the world. Pillers of eternity or pathfinder for example both go into detail about all ur actions, how they effect the world. What happens to all the companions you had with you in the adventure ext. Pillars ending for example goes on for like 20min. Its imbh the best part about crpgs, seeing everything you done and how it actually effects the world you played in.

Roll in bg3, and you get to the ending and tbh its just a generic boring trippleA ending of any random rpg and everything you did all feels wasted. Smells of rushing to release to me, which is big shame. IT's hard to replay a crpg when you know everything you do wont have a fleshed out conclusion by the end.

If you aren't actually going to bother reading it, or giving a comment...then don't?

Even Cyberpunk 2077 had an epilogue in the credits, and that game was barely finished.

everyone who finished act 3 are saying the exact same thing and more. lot of people are still in act 1 or 2 still. even with its flows the game is Great though.

I really hope this game gets a more satisfactory and exhausting ending especially when it regards companions and our romances.
Choice is freedom, it's always an illusion.

8.3 is still a really good score, I'm not saying the game is bad. But IMO it's not on the RPG level of Dragon Age, or Mass Effect...or even Fallout.

I am with you on this.

Seems a lot of posibilities.

I'm going to say something controversial: Even Fallout 4 had more meaningful choices that presents the results of said choice.

I am still in act 2 and I have made 50+ decisions already that actually have real consequences. There is no way to address all of those in a few cut-scenes at the end of the game.

Choices matter in the game. It's great.

This thread is unnecessary.

Really someone believed in 17.000 endings lol?

That moment...you agree with the "Hot Take"...

Lol "I'm only in act 2, but I know more then the person who finished the game, because...I just do."

Ahhh yes of course, how silly of me. Surly all of those "Choices" you made I totally just happened to skip in my 220 hours, and they just all happened to be the meaningful ones that effect the ending.

Or...

You are incorrect, and none of them effect the ending like I said, because I've done them all, and actually you know, saw how it plays out?

Now who's comment is unnecessary?
