How to finish/put a stop to/get rid of Gale romance

Does anybody know. I was only ever nice to him, and before I got to know his character (who I cant stand since I did) I may have been flirty, because wizard! Sadly, now the game locked me into a romance with him and I cant tell him to go away! I accidentally started a thing with Wyll, and there you had an option to tell him "Sorry, but no" (didnt know dancing with him would start a romance; being a kind ear to Astarion didnt). And that was it, no fuss. But with Gale at this point there IS no option to end it. At no point did I get a dialogue where I could tell him no without being extra cruel (and that doesnt break the romance either, it just lowers his approval, which is very high as I play a decent character). I got the scene where he invites you to watch the starts and then I tried every option, including not interested, and it doesnt do anything. No breaking up! I only get the dialogue option about "the night we spend together" now, and we didnt! I ignored him! I want to be able to have a romance in this game, but not with him, please help. I believe it locked me out of content with everybody else. Karlach didnt even have a flirty option when I finished her quest and her approval is the highest.

What do I do? Is there a console? Is there a way to be free of the worst companion? I would gladly blow him up at this point, roleplay be damned. Is there anything I can do?

just talk to them and if you have the option "let's talk about our relationship" you'll have the option to break it off. Or maybe Karlach doesn't want to be with someone that had a peener in them, lol /cough.

Once you get locked into a romance I don't think there is a way to end it or start one with someone else. The trick is not getting involved in the first place, and that seems problematic with Gale.

Exactly. No wonder it is the "most popular" one out there, you can't not get it, its bugged! Isnt there a way to kill it via console or something? Or modifying the game files?

I keep seeing people commenting, but honestly I've never once gotten it, and while I've been nice to Gale, he's never once pushed things or tried a second time.

What might be the factor, is after you save (or maybe not) the Tieflings in the Grove, I picked Karlach to talk too. Gale made a comment about Magic, I said no, and he never made another move again.

Maybe that's the point where you just have to avoid him or tell him no?

LOL poor Gale the writers really lost it with him. Seems all the romance troubles start with him. Its to be expected when writers don't want to commit to anything .

I don't seem to be experiencing the same game as people writing these complaints, not that I want to take anything away from those complaints, maybe I'm just that ugly that even Gale isn't interested :(

It seems this is the case, you have to avoid him and shoot him down in everything from the beginning. But I didn't know this. And I dont mind even that the romance triggers weirdly or that it triggered for me, just give me an option to end it.

I am too late in the game (act 2) to change anything though. I can just hope that Halsin, Jaheira or even Minsc can save me from the Galestalk :V. So far it seems I can get flirty options with Halsin, so maybe not all is lost. Maybe thats the way to kill it.

Has anyone figured this out? I know the patch notes at one point mentioned making it easier to tell when you’re flirting with Gale, but have they added a way to get out of it if you ended up apparently in a romance with him? I hate him but I was nice to him and now these weird prompts come out of the blue like “think of your love for Gale” and I’m there like girl what? Please just let me date karlach, thx

Kill him. Or never bother pull him out of the portal. Simple as that.

Just sleep with Halsin. All good. But Gale becomes annoyingly snippy afterward. I only allow him out of the camp when I have to progress his story. Otherwise he can stay far, far away
