Gloomstalker / Rogue (assassin) is a stealth killing machine, best to setup with a heavy crossbow and wouldn't need the extra bonus action as much so would be best to go with assassin
maybe just 5 gloomstalker and 3 assassin, then figure out where to put the other 4 levels. maybe 5 hunter 3 thief even if the fight isn't resolved turn 1. definitely colossus slayer, but idk about the defense.
could do 4 levels more into rogue to get 1 feat, uncanny dodge, 2 more expertise, and evasion.
4 levels into ranger would give me 1 more favored enemy and natural explorer, immunity to difficult terrain, and a feat, and 1 more defensive tactics as a hunter or as a gloomstalker proficiency against wis and int saving throws and the fear spell
other class choices would be
- monk (lol), gaining flurry of blows stuff or stealth related spells, unarmored defense, all proficient weapons scaling with dex instead of str
- fighter, for action surge, and maneuvres or higher critical chance
- bard, for jack of all trades, more expertise and flourishes
- cleric, for more proficiencies with knowledge or better stealth with trickery
all of them have a feat at lvl 4
Even better if you take Two Weapon Fighting fighting style for full off hand damage, Dual Wielder perk for the ability to use full size weapons and extra armor class, and then demolish things with all the opening Assassinate attacks you'll be landing on multiple surprised enemies.
Gloomstalker is a neat second place though for the immersion and free invisibility. And staying ranged is only a bit weaker overall than dual wielding but mileage will vary based on play style.
idk man the assassin/gloomstalker combo sounds stronger. enemy can't hurt you if they're dead before they can take their turn
3 + 5 + 6 does not equal 12. are you cheating?
