Withers is [potentil spoilers inside]
Jergal. There is no way he is something else.
First of all as a cleric you can sense divine power from him, though he will not answer who he is.
Then when you defy your father as a bhaalspawn, he will ressurect you. Then he will state that he will be your witness and advocate in the plane of Fugue. And mention that it is not something that he usualy does, as he is most often a scribe. You know THE SCRIBE?
Last thing is the scene after credits, where he expresses clear dissapointment in the Dead Tree, and how they waste their divinity constatnly loosing to mortlas. And Jergal is the one who granted 3 idiots their divinity.
Thoughts?

Yeah, it even says it's a Jergal temple if you pass a religion pass at the dank crypt...
Sterling Aug 17, 2023 @ 7:58am
He is buried in a temple of Jergal, so yeah that's Jergal allright. The question remains how he managed to return to life as granting divinity to the Dead Three destroyed him originally.

I think he is an avatar of jergal.
Not jergal himself.
Mostly because he is busy scribing the names of the dead but you know.
Gods arent limited to 1 body.

Jegral kept his role as scribe of the dead from what i heard.
Basicly he works for the god of the dead.
No matter who that is.
He is like the inreplacable acounted because he knows how it all works.
Better to keep him around then try to get rid of him.
After all he doesnt plot, plan or scheme.
Just does his job.

Not really? He served both Cyric and Kelemvor after the gave away his portfolios to the Dead Three. He is still the Scribe of Souls.

he wasn't destroyed by granting them divinity, he lost the vast majority of his power and became the Scribe of the Dead.

Yeah that was pretty on the nose. Though I took it as a chosen one of Jergal. Not Jergal itself.

Yeah, it's pretty clear in game that he's Jergal. The book inside the crypt confirms it, describing his appearance and that Jergal asked the same question about the worth of a life that Withers did.

Yeah Jergal is either demigod or lesser deity in power, he has portfolio/domain still so significant powers over the dead and death (so long as he doesn't go against Kelemvor).

We need mode where he can Join the party.

Ah okay. I was pretty sure he died when he surrendered Divinity. Fair enough.
