Ah, thank god! I'll try and max will request a refund. I should figure out if it's going to cause motion sickness within a couple of minutes of play
It's not a problem IRL. The whole reason it causes motion sickness is because in some large proportion of people they get nauseous when the movement doesn't match the movement that their body is experiencing. I can't play virtual reality stuff either
IRL your inner ear detects the motion as you turn your head, move around, etc.
When your viewpoint changes in a 3D game you obviously don't get those signals, and that can cause motion sickness in some people.
You can do this pretty easily, 'locking' or 'unlocking' the camera from the characters is an important aspect of the game for exploration and targeting purposes.
Honestly I find it annoying in the opposite way that you do- where chasing my characters with WASD as they run around can become annoying. There already exists a mod which allows you to move your characters via WASD, as one would in an MMO style game, so something may exist (or be easy to create) which ensures the camera is never locked to your character.
Wouldn't scaling your UI to be larger, or playing in a smaller window, also aid with this?
