Graphics card going nuts. Help!
So I just bought the game and got into character creation. However my graphics card fans are spinning up to maximum for a few seconds then down for a second then back up. I tried capping the frames to 60 and turning everything to low but it's still getting too hot. And loud honestly. Is anyone else having this problem? I had this problem with Diablo 4 but capping my frames at 90 worked.

I was surprised when I found the game using 10gb of ram (in 4k) and the temp of my 7900XTX as high as Forza Horizon 5 (a far more heavy graphic game). But honestly nothing overscale or sudden fan speed. You got the same problem with both DX11 and Vulkan render? You got the same problems with other graphic intensive game beside BG3 and Diablo 4?
When I mentioned poor optimisation yesterday, I was told it was my fault for having a potato PC.

If you're looking for help, this forum is probably the wrong place.

The only other game I play is Guild Wars 2 which is from 2012. It has no issues at all. I think I did whatever the default option was. DX11 I think?

Try capping your frames both in game and in your GPU's control panel. Also try turning on DLSS or the AMD equivalent, that tends to help. I don't really go over 70 at 4k@60(hot spot aside).

What is your graphics card and other specs? Perhaps that could give us more info

The graphics card is an RTX 2070. The CPU is an i7-9700. Ram is 16gb.

Give a try with the Vulkan render. Game is very scalable: can use a lot of vram if you max settings but can be played with old hardware as well with some compromises: a friend of mine is playing with a 1650 without big issue. Are your drivers up to date?

Yeah, I tried DLSS but it didn't change anything. I currently have it capped at 60 at 1080p but it's still going nuts.

Your build is good enough to where you should not be having issues.

Yea they are up to date. Several days ago was a driver update. Mine is an rtx 2070. Even lowering everything to low doesn't fix it. Only if I framerate cap at like.... 30 at 1080p does it get down to 60 celcius.

In general, asking for tech help on Steam Forums of all place isn't exactly the brightest idea. Better off going to a tech forum, the official forums, or maybe even reddit as all three will give you better discourse and help likely compared to Steam Forums.

Try to Cap also the refresh rate, I had similar issues (on char sheet, trading window...) despite FPS cap and it went better once I changed the refresh rate from 159 to 59

Oh yeah, now that I see your specs it kinda makes sense. A couple years back in EA I was using a, I think 9600f or something? And a 2060 Super and it was like a jet engine.

I'd have hoped it would be better optimized now, but low @ 1080p and still running hot seems odd. Not sure what else you could do.
RTX 3070
R5 7600
32GB 6200Mhz RAM.
1440p everything on max with quality DLSS enabled.

Game is sure pushing my setup to it's limit BUT any modern game crancked to a max is so i dont see anything unusual here. Temps are under 70c in 28 c room ( we have a heatwave this week over here ) , it was under 65c last week with usual summer weather.

You can be angry wit people saying that it is not a game but your setup, but they are right:) Game IS pushing hardware hard, but nowhere next to unsafe or unreasonable. It is often that new games simply expose some weaker points of some systems, like insufficient cooling, failing PSUs and so on.

Besides, keeping in mind that you dont need more than 60 fps in this game it is very easy to 'win' some C here by simply locking game to 60.

If you just leave the frame rate uncapped in the game it will always try and hit the highest it can.. so yeah will max out your card and most cards really as its a pretty demanding game..

But yeah capping the fps down a bit will help a lot its not really the kind of game that needs super high fps..
