This game seems to be designed around the player knowing who to romance before they ever start playing...

Not sure if this might be character specific but I romanced 2 characters and was kinda forced to made a choice only at the end of Act 2 (about 60 hours in the game). Other characters also were trying to romance me at the beginning of the game so I had to tell them that I am not interested.

The romance design is so bad.

What If I'm not interested 5 hours into the game but i change my mind during the 90 hours of interacting with the companion?

Why would they force you to choose a romance partner in the freaking tutorial?

While I haven't done a ton of A B testing I assume you have to go for it when the option presents itself, based on how the romances build. Not unlike real life.

it isnt like real life at all.

In real life you dont have to flirt with someone every time you speak to them to make them like you, and you can break up or turn them down without never dating them ever again.

When you guys say this stuff i feel like you come off as incels.

They did not. I was romancing 2 characters up until I was forced to make a choice at about 90 hours mark. Before that I was romancing both characters (and few others were also trying to romance me).
You can also end the relationship with the character as well.

They did not. I was romancing 2 characters up until I was forced to make a choice at about 90 hours mark. Before that I was romancing both characters (and few others were also trying to romance me).

characters having sex with you isnt their romance. Sex and Romance events are completely separate in this game.

I had Laezel jumping into me at the end of Act 1 and I succumbed. At the middle of Act 2 Laezel demanded decisions, I ended our "fling" and started flirting with Karlach since she was maxed out too. Now I'm at the start of Act 3 with Karlach and trying to switch over to maxed Shadowheart to see if it is possible.

I have no idea is this game hard locking you out at this point, but we will see. I'm just testing. I'm not a HUGE fan of this romance system, it's nice touch, but little bit shallow. I't makes the characters look pretty thirsty, which is in my opinion unnecessary.

Party members affection is very easily maxed and after that they start flirting, which is kinda weird since there is no other routes like "friend" or "colleague" it's just romance or not. Would be nice to have maxed out relationship, go with "friend" route and gain something like unique cutscene buddies fishing or some background lore. Now there is only romance and sex.

I'd still rather take this system as it is than not having it all, but it feels a bit unpolished.

I was romancing Shadowheart but at some point accidentally triggered the romance for Karlach and now I can't get Shadowheart's romance scene with the wine at the celebration. And Karlach has no option to break off the romance like Lae'zel does after her fling.

I think im going to just stop playing and wait 6-8 months for people to find and isolate exactly which lines trigger these events and play then.
