Can Scratch die?

I got the ability to play fetch with him and summon him outside of camp. However, I'm a little afraid to do so because I don't want him to get murdered if we run into some monsters along the road.

Does he vanish during enemy encounters? Or is he a possible target for them to attack?

As i understand it Scratch works like an ordinary summon, he can be defeated in combat but not killed. He'll just go back to camp until you summon him again.

Be warned though, if you plan to use stealth he has a habit of ignoring all that and wandering into enemies and triggering all manor of chaos.

i have had to do a few reloads because his scratch and sniff ability randomly will start and he just paths through all traps in a location sometimes.

He has extremely stupid AI, i'd recommend to ignore him as a summon.

Well, he does have a 3 INT, so makes sense

Not in combat, but he can die as a story consequence.

I have him run away and hide during combat. He just despawns, but as he has low hp, he's not worth using in battle, and he's handy outside of combat.

As far as I can tell, Scratch can only die by your hand… so don’t be an evil bastard and he should be fine.

Scratch is only there to be adorable and petting him in the camp.

This. No other practical use tbh. Even if all your team members fail their survival checks just go on a digging spree. You will find whatever you were meant to in the first place.
