Talk to animals as a sorcerer?
I want to play a sorcerer... I always want to play a mage that studied for his powers to become powerful lateron... But I HAVE to have a "talk with animals" ability!

Can you have companions outside of your main character that can learn this?
I kinda need to know before I start :D

1) Sorcerers do not study for their magic. That's the wizard class.
2) Companions can get the talk to animals capability and they can then talk to animals.

Also, be sure to pick all the herbs you come across and do some alchemy. A talk to animals potion lasts until long rest and I've so far picked enough herbs to make one for any situation where I wanted talk with animals.

If you chose path of the Totem warrior with Karlach.
There is another possible companion later.

Generally: Bard, Druid, Ranger, Barbarian (TotemWarrior)

Just use potion or scroll to speak with animals, use it once a day. It lasts till the long rest.

There's potions that allow you to do that, eventually you can make them if you have the materials for it.
Could also play as a forest gnome I believe, they get speak with animals for being who they are, wood elves too I think.

Game lets you do whatever you want through use of magical items and potions. Player has access to all the resources they need. It really detracts from class identity though as anyone can do anything.

You can also take the ritual caster feat and take Talk With Animals as one of them. Then it doesn't cost anything to cast.

Good news, you can actually kill two birds with one stone: Just have Shadowheart multiclass 1 level into Druid and give her a quarterstaff instead of her default mace. Now she can learn Speak with Animals AND she can cast Shillelagh so she can use her WIS modifier for attack/damage, making it so she can contribute to combat at the beginning of the game.

You can simply start as a Gnome (Forest type) and get to speak with animals without the need to multiclass.
