Don't pick up Astarion
Do I miss out on something important without him. I really don't like him I would prefer to play without him?. I never use him in any way. He's only been in the camp as long as I'e played this game. It's about hi trying to smooth talk everything.

You need him to get a potion that permanently increases strength by 2. So if you're going a strength build, or want a companion to reach 22 strength themselves, you would need to keep him until act 2.

And if you do use your knees not your back!

I regret sympathising with Astarion at that junction. He is irredeemable.

Jokes aside he is 1 of the 2 recipients of the necromancy of thay and of course he is a smooth talker he is supposedly a diplomat or something In Baldurs Gate? Honestly though I think you should try to check out all of their background stories, his is pretty neat so far. Perhaps if you get to know them more you'll think of them differently? Maybe not but worth a try.

I keep Astarion around because he is guiding me to the good ending.

If he wants to do something then I do the opposite and it works out very well.

i mean, you miss out on the strongest companion in the game.
he just gets a flat out 1 bonus to everything, not to mention hes act 3 story is good stuff

He is the only rougue in the roster, so you will need him for lockpicking, awareness checks and good ranged/dagger combat. Unless you play a custom rogue/high dex char yourself...

i stabbed his heart the first time he crawled at night to bite my main character.
no regrets.

False, but a ton of people on here are super pre judgmental over stupid first impressions and can't seem to fathom there might be more to a person if you bother to take the time to understand them, so it's not surprising to see this yet again.

You're describing Shadowheart. Astarion doesn't get better as you learn more about him, he gets worse. I was actually expecting him to be the most sympathetic character in the game because of his popularity. He's not. I like the way he was written, it's not pandering at all and he's truly monstrous, but I do not like him.

I've had him in my party for the entirety of my singleplayer game.

Once again, false, but you haven't seen his whole story so it's not surprising. Enjoy the judgmental mindset I guess.

Don't tell me how or who, but where do you actually get this? I wasn't using Astarion for a lot of my run so I'm likely passed this. Would be nice to know for my second run later on.

...

You have obviously missed a lot of interaction with him.

im pretty much destroying every enemy first try, on hardest difficulty, with
Laezel, Shadowhart, Gale and my Ranger.

The perfect party - Tank, Healer, Mage, Archer

Dont get me wrong, im not a pro, this is my first time ever DND game, but you become extremely powerful, with summoning creatures that have 125-160 hp, and that can push enemies off cliffs with their abilities.

I dont think i would need even a +5 strength buff.

Plus my main Strength character already has +23 strength gloves
