This is the problem with RPG's that don't introduce companions throughout the story.

Yeah it is rather boring.
We are all special level 1 characters.
Back in the bad old days:
Name is keldger by the way.
Stop by the willow here for a brief fight.
Either way they got my coin.
The way i saw it.

We live in an age where being normal is not acceptable.
Everyone has to be special.
Normal people cannot possible achieve greatness.
*vap like a moron*

Ugh.
The more you study humanity the more you grow to hate them.

The all say, Wyll especially, that the tadpole is actively interfering with their powers. The same reason why vampire spawn Astarion can not get fried in daylight. The tadpole did it.

I'm something of a scientist myself.

So was it the tadpole that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bear?

Certain characters were kind of depowered in different ways. Gale by the orb specifically, so not sure why it matters. It's just an explanation how you can have people who existed and achieved things in the realm while also them being level 1 again for the adventure. They aren't meant to be fresh faces is the point.

Those are just the backgrounds they chose at character creation. I chose Outlander.

Because even deleveled to level 1 you dont lose your 200+ spells.
You just cannot cast them.

And companions without tadpoles? The two from previous bgs?

That's just an RPG trope. In DOS2, all the characters had super special origins too, yet they all started at level 1.

I think it is explained they were nerfed by the tadpole or something like that.

That said, I would like it more if they were a bunch of nobodies that eventually make their name and become famous.

@OP Yup, the backgrounds are over the top, definitely not what I like to see. In my opinion they border on the kind of Mary Sue background you see DMs in videos joke about / tell you to avoid. But well… first one minute :P

Though there at least I got it. I didn’t like it but it made sense and fit the story. Those guys were the ONES, the chosen of their races etc. They were basically in a competition to become practically a god from the start. Here though not so much.

It was stated that the tadpoles made them much weaker

One of them does have a tadpole actually. Jaheira is old and that's her excuse. Battle grandma can't cut it.
