It's more of a maze, one start, basically one ending, with many paths to get through it.
Baldur's Gate 3 is basically DnD flavored Mass Effect 3. A great game bogged down by an unfinished finale and a big whopping nothing of an ending.
I dunno why Larian screwed the ending on such a massive game... but I do hope they see the general disappointment and get it reworked.
Its kinda odd that the ending was so bad considering that they went down the road with DOS2 and had to rework that games ending, you would think they would of planned better, i do sorta chalk it up to them wanting to stress test the ending with the community and thats not something you can really do in early access, so at some point you do have to just put the project out there and see how its received.
mass effect 3 ending was the worst last 10 minutes ruined the ending . choice mattered till you confronted the boy , who gave you three option and after that we did not get epilogue .
even if you main character die you can pass on the protagonist role to someone else just for giving epilogue of choice and consequence
I played DOS2 late so I had no idea the ending got reworked. In my post I actually wanted to compare BG3 with the great job they did in DOS2. There's actual hope then?
Honestly, maybe BG3 needed that extra month in development. I was so hopeful to hear what happened to the characters, especially Vlaakith and you-know-who. Git gud I guess.
I'm not stupid enough to think that means 17k endings to the game. That would be a waste of resources, but 17k variations to various quests as you travel through the maze of the story makes sense.
That's what branching means. You know trees and their branches.
Different solutions to solve the same problems is not a branching story nor it is a maze and nothing new or original really.
Real branching stories are very rare in video games
It's more linear than many older rpgs. You are basically on rails the entire game. There is no extra zones or side zones... you just go to the each on and follow story. No deviation linear
Especially Asmongold who doesn't even play the game nor would he get through act 1 if he did lol.
