Assign companions to both players in local splitscreen

In local split screen all companions get assigned to/controlled by the first player. The second player cannot be grouped with any companion. It works when the second player invites a new companion into the group, but then after regrouping it cannot be grouped with the second player again. Is this some bug? Is there some workaround for this?

Never mind, companions can be assigned via Session settings.

Press LT - hover over the Character in Question (with left stick). Now Y is seperate and X is group.
