Kill all the goblins?
Had a friend tell me it’s important to completely clear the goblin camp before act 2.. but the game itself seems to be pushing me towards just taking out the leaders.. why did they say this?

Because the game simply gives you a choice, while your friend pushes you into one.

He had his reasons, but unless you want the story progression to be spoiled, you really don't want to hear the answers.

That said, no matter which choice you pick, afterwards clearing out the camp just before you move into Act 2 won't have repercussions. So it's free XP and loot.

You only need to kill the leaders. It's absolutely meaningless if you kill ALL the goblins, and it's a huge waste of time.

You do kill at least 2 goblin children in Halsin's dungeon, cause they run to the door to alert the guards, and you can't have that.

It's not about the destination (preventing the alarm from being sounded) it's about the journey (killing goblin children).

The alarm is just a fun little excuse.

The goblins are objectively evil raiders who pillage and kill anything they feel like. However, the game doesn't do a good job of presenting that to the player. Most races would never interact with goblins at all except to kill them or to run away from them. The story telling in this game is pretty atrocious. The mind parasites don't really change that fact about goblins. Everyone would be very suspicious of goblins just starting to talk to them as if they were going to get a long.

Do what you think is right. From my observations, all the goblins appear to be evil and sadistic. Even the little kid goblins enjoy torturing bears for entertainment. So to me it was a no brainer. Exterminate them all.

So if you see a kid at a zoo trowing something at the animals...

For me the sadistic bear only gave me 2 options, either I would help him with genocide or if i refused meant he would atk me. The answer was simple. After that I proceeded to attempt to save the goblins from evil dictators.

It does make it easier to get the owlbear cub into your camp if you did the stuff for that already

You can hear goblin kids (outside camp near cliff) bragging how they killed some innocent npc.. you dont need to be goody goody with goblins.. just become goblin slayer :)

You only have to kill children if you’re playing a “Good” arc. You can spare them if you’re evil. Don’t ask, it’s Larian morality.

Non-lethal attacks are a thing. You only kill them if you want to.
Thank the gods you responded to this after a year of the OP not having the answer.

Truly you're doing the god's work.
