Experience distribution?
Hey everyone! I have a few hours in the game, but I've had a bit of choice paralysis and am only now just making a character I'm happy with.

Just to make sure/not gimp myself, it looks like the past games allowed you to benefit from NOT taking every party member you can (ie; less party members = more exp)

Is that true here as well? Or does it not matter whether or not I have a full party.

It does not matter. It seems the game is also not displaying that entirely correct. I had sometimes member X or Y downed after a battle, and while the others had XP indicator the downed one did not.

But by the end of the day they all got the same exp sum after a night's long rest - with only little rounding error.

So yeah, it absolutely does not matter who you take along. And if you get a hireling later on, they get at the same level as your player character as well.

I can add that if your main character ever goes ahead of any companion in exp, dismissing them and adding them back to the party will adjust their exp to be the same as the MC

The only way of getting more exp than someone else is from Inspiration exp btw.

Experience is distributed evenly and even retroactively.

The game will balance exp automatically. When I finished a quest, my party member of equal level but less exp got 1240 exp, while the others got 40, making them numerically equal in exp.
