Level cap & 9th level spells.
I find it funny that people are out here simping for a video game.
Blindly defending it from all criticism claiming it is completely free of bugs and glitches.
But my favorite is people defending level cap decision.
"OMG they can't go above level 12 because 7th, 8th, and 9th level spells would literally be impossible to implement in video game format!"
Funny because

Never Winter Nights (2002) had 9th level spells.

Icewind Dale (2000) had 9th level spells.

Baldur's Gate 2 (1998) had 9th level spells.

Pathfinder Kingmaker (2018) had 9th level spells.

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous (2021) had 9th level spells.

And if you aren't rushing through everything and taking your time you are hitting level 8 or 9 in chapter 2. Just cut spells like Wish or Astral Projection that would be problematic. Larian has already made changes from 5e in the game so it wouldn't be end of the world to leave a few things out.

Yeah I guess it would be to difficult for a company that had make some of the best RPGs in recent years to implement them. Not like other games had been doing it for over 20 years now.

I'm sure those games all had it, but this campaign isn't designed around that level of magic.

I remember those games being unbalanced as hell and extremely unfun because of it.

Well I know that. Doesn't mean they can't release some DLC for higher level characters.
I just find it funny that people are out here declaring it is IMPOSSIBLE to even implement them into a video game format

"I have fun playing this game" - you must be a simp :eyeroll:

Yes, and all of them didn't implement most 9th level spells (Wish, anyone) or implemented them wrong (Time Stop).

There is a difference between enjoying it and lying about it.
I have seen countless videos talking about how
"It is an absolute masterpiece. Completely bug and glitch free. Released perfectly with no issues"
Yeah. I've had fun playing it. But it still has plenty of bugs and glitches.

Yeah, I remember dropping multiple Meteor Swarms during a Time Stop in NWN. Ludicrous

Where are you seeing people claim it's impossible? Implausible, sure.
When I DM for players in 5e we usually don't go beyond 8th level or so. I think the highest was 10, because we enjoyed the grounded aspect of the campaign. I imagine this game's narrative is very similar, can't imagine it would make canonical sense for the characters to be demigods.

Oh, yeah, or missile storm while time stop'd: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8j5BgGCZcGE

RAW say others are invulnerable while you're under the influence of time stop. It's meant to let you buff yourself

Just watch a few Baldur's Gate 3 videos on YouTube. They'll start popping up.

Sounds hilarious though.

There is the fun thing about 9th level spells. They are supposed to be super powerful. And nothing is forcing you to exploit them and cheese the system.
But that is what D&D is all about. Using the mechanics of the game to pull off some insane moves.

Fair enough, I think the scope of the game just was not large enough. Which in my opinion is a good thing, as it kept things focused and complete. Otherwise you'd get scope creep and we'd be in EA for another year or two. Also it's not fair to compare an isometric RPG like BG2 with more modern games. Graphics, art, tech, and in general video game development have changed and costs have gone up. Making bg2 today would not take today's team of 400 people and almost 7 years to make.

Why are you upset about 7th level spells and higher?

What has that have to do with 'bugs' and glitches?

Just asking, because if you make a topic about one thing, then suddenly complain why there's no higher level spells, I am not sure what message you are trying to get over?

D&D itself is a VERY unbalanced game. A lot of the fun of it is using the mechanics of the game and your imagination to pull off some seriously powerful moves. So I'd say it did a good job implementing them .
