No, it's more than that. If I remove the owlbear egg, drop it on the ground, there is something else in the first spot, but I don't get the option to feed it anything. So I can feed it either the egg or nothing at all.
I had a lot of fruit. A lot of sausages, roats, etc.
From what I've read, you can use the egg later in a sidequest. That's what I want to save my egg for.
There's a ton of different outcomes to quest lines in this game, so are you sure you have to feed the owlbear cub to get to the quest you're looking for or do you forego feeding it to get that side quest later?
But I still would like to keep the owlbear egg.
And even if I didn't need it, my issue is that for some reason, the game thinks that the owlbear egg is the only thing an owlbear cub can eat, without telling me. It happily feeds the egg to the cub, happily just basically throws the egg away, without telling me.
That's the issue I have. I'd be fine if the dialogue option was just "Here, I have something to eat (Feed the owlbear egg to the owlbear cub)". I.e. I'd be happy if what it did was being made explicit.
Fair complaint, feels a bit hand holdy to me, though.
so hearing about this i am not even surprised
What is interesting though, if you don't pick up the egg, everything works just fine, you can feed the cub (without losing the egg obviously). So the solution might be to go and claim the egg after you tame the cub. That worked for me, glad I had earlier saves to test this.
