Forced feeding owlbear egg to owlbear cub?!?
So, I just got the cutscenes with the owlbear cub in my camp. The first one, I give it food, the second one, I tame it and it stays.

I noticed that afterwards, I'm missing the owlbear egg I have. Reload the save, and sure enough, after the first cutscene, where I feed the owlbear cub, the egg is gone.

So, reload again, drop the egg first so it's not in my inventory. When the owlbear cub comes again, I'm not even getting the option to feed it! So, without telling me, the game basically thinks the only thing I can feed an owlbear is owlbear eggs?!?

Oh my god I wish I knew this earlier. It must be taking the first thing in the camp supplies bag which if sorted is the owlbear egg. Now it is impossible for me to get it back since it was a whole act back and I'm not jumping that far back :(

Well, it is not eating rations or drinking wine. Maybe the egg was the only natural thing in your rations bag? Even if you lost it, you look only at 1000 gp going poof :)

No, it's more than that. If I remove the owlbear egg, drop it on the ground, there is something else in the first spot, but I don't get the option to feed it anything. So I can feed it either the egg or nothing at all.

I had a lot of fruit. A lot of sausages, roats, etc.

From what I've read, you can use the egg later in a sidequest. That's what I want to save my egg for.

There's a ton of different outcomes to quest lines in this game, so are you sure you have to feed the owlbear cub to get to the quest you're looking for or do you forego feeding it to get that side quest later?

No, I don't have to feed the owlbear cub. That's not the issue. I'm perfectly happy not feeding the owlbear cub. The difference there is only a +1 approval change. I don't care.

But I still would like to keep the owlbear egg.

And even if I didn't need it, my issue is that for some reason, the game thinks that the owlbear egg is the only thing an owlbear cub can eat, without telling me. It happily feeds the egg to the cub, happily just basically throws the egg away, without telling me.

That's the issue I have. I'd be fine if the dialogue option was just "Here, I have something to eat (Feed the owlbear egg to the owlbear cub)". I.e. I'd be happy if what it did was being made explicit.

Fair complaint, feels a bit hand holdy to me, though.

i wont spoil, but there is a LOT of hand holding in the game. it won't become obvious if you play along with what the game wants you to do - but if you try to push against it or test different outcomes you will quickly realize you are being railroaded...
so hearing about this i am not even surprised

Had the same problem. I accidentally noticed that if you already picked up the egg, you will feed the cub with it. I tried to put the egg out of my inventory, but then the line of dialogue to feed the cub won't even appear.
What is interesting though, if you don't pick up the egg, everything works just fine, you can feed the cub (without losing the egg obviously). So the solution might be to go and claim the egg after you tame the cub. That worked for me, glad I had earlier saves to test this.

No need to worry, the owl bear cub will admit his mom ate his older brother so eating each other is kind of fine for them.
