Unless it's a time thing which some of my friends find it hard to coop because there is like 1 day a week we all have off but then you play it single player and on those days we take it slow if we get the chance we play games. No reason to rush it the game will keep existing lol
'Solo' typically means using only a single character with no companions around here.
I'm happy for those who are into that sort of stuff ofc, but while I love and regularly play many coop games and I love RPG's and have been playing PnP since I was a child, I don't think I would ever play a game like this together with someone. Maybe your SO but friends? No way. From romances to the choices you choose and the way you play, it's a deeply personal experience for me. Not to mention I've basically never met people where our playstyles mix. From BG2 back in the day to MMO's to others, what always happens is that someone is always on a break and someone else needs to stop for 5 minutes ever 10 minutes to read every book they just found in a room while another spend 30 minutes pondering about what to do with their next level. Always a huge hassle about where to go next, people never agreeing on what to choose in the story etc.
Even in SWTOR doing dungeons I would constantly run into people who started ordering new players to force them to skip cinematics they had never seen, or told them to pick certain choices in dialogue that would go completely against their character. Every time I'd have to jump in and say to play exactly as they want and if someone else can't handle it then don't play with randoms.
But yeah anyway. xD
tldr; It's a single player game. Barring enjoying the company of others, playing on your own will absolutely be the better experience.
and yes you can play 4 character alone
