You can play the game fully offline, and there is no denuvo or similar if thats what youre wondering about. I don't think you can just grab the game files and launch them on another machine without being tied to a steam acc that owns the game tho

you can start the game's executable without Steam being started, so yes, it is DRM free.

yes. BG3 uses Steamworks only for achievements and to enhance multiplayer networking capabilities. There is no license validation whatsoever.

Just to clarify, that means I own my copy of the game on steam? I was initially going to buy the game on gog because I can launch the game without being forced to go online or use the client launcher.

To be fair i wish there was a denuvo in it. Always makes me feel like a sucker when i pay for games and others just grab it for free.

You know denuvo doesn't even *remotely* work and just ♥♥♥♥♥ on performance?

How about actually paying the artists that create a product you enjoy, ain't that enough of a reason to buy a game?

It delays pirates by quite a bit, also makes it really hard for them to get updates. When i pay someone money i expect to receive something others can not receive without paying. When same product can be received with and without paying, it feels silly to pay.

That is extremely flawed logic. Everything can be received without paying, but its often criminal to do so. Sure, digital goods are still different from physical goods, and I don't wanna do the whole "you wouldnt download a car" nonsense, but still, just morally speaking there are plenty of reasons to pay for digital goods.

Then, if receiving a better product is already incentive enough to pay... considering that Steam offers a plethora of services you won't benefit from with a pirated copy, it seems counter productive to annoy your own customers with DRM.

That's what Larian understood very well and why they do not use DRM. Any hurdle between the customer and the product are as many potential lost sales: They often go as far as saying that DRM simply doesn't work.

On top of that, you can also launch the game 4 times at once. 1 via steam, 3 via the files. (DX or Vulkan make sure to use the same in all clients)Create multiplayer lobby, join with all 4 clients, create characters, launch the game, then save and quit everything. Open up the game again from steam normally, load the game and you have 4 custom characters.

PS: This method might have problems down the line, use at your own discretion.

Yes, simply start bg3.exe or bg3_dx11.exe under bin in the game's installation directory. You can also make a copy of the whole installation directory to freeze the game into a specific patch.

If Steam isn't started then the game won't use Steamworks functionality.

You can also choose to NOT pay for it and can still play it, but you chose not to do that, then you're not a sucker. Because steam overall(even if the publishers try to screw customers over with DRMs or other 🐂 💩 s) give you better services than piracy. In this case, with this game, you're not a sucker
If you feel silly to pay, it's a you problem, so you shouldn't.
And if you want developers to implement Denuvo just because you don't someone out there pirating the games, then congratulations because you already became a selfish sucker. Because Denuvo doesn't give customers any benefits, have no redeeming quality, and can block you from launching the game, it's definitely not a good thing for payers.
Should I even explain how their forced online activation work??

I rather pay for games so they don't need to have Denuvo.
