What comes next?

Recently on that Dropped Frames podcast Swen said that they already had another project lined up that he wasn't going to tell us about. There are 3 unimaginative answers to what I think that could be: BG3 expansion, BG4 or DOS3.

If not any of the obvious ones, what do you think they could be making? What would you like them to make? Perhaps they can sweep up some more from Bioware's back catalogue?

I think it is criminal that Larian still isn't confirmed to be making KotOR 3.

They can´t say that yet, because it would take away hype from BG3.
Expect the news to be official around 2024.

Its DOS3, I doubt WOTC is allowing for anything more at this point. At least they'll see how the game gets perceived first.

Hard to say. I believe Swen said that anything BG3 related wouldn't be for awhile, so I'm thinking they're working on a separate project. If I heard correctly anyway.

I really hope Baldur's Gate 3 will get a ton of DLCs with a ton of 5E subclasses. They already went WAY beyond just the PHB and it would be fairly easy to implement I suppose. We are yet to see if the story leaves loose ends for a sequel DLC.

A comedy slapstick space-based IP with tons of moon-logic and unnecessary raunch, like a CRPG version of Leather Goddesses of Phobos with explicit graphics.

As much as I would love more third-party stuff from them, I’m hoping they make DOS3. The Divinity universe is friggen RICH with amazing lore, and this could be a fun opportunity for them to bring back giant mechs, fighter jets, and nuclear weapons (check Dragon Commander if you think I’m full of it).

As long as they never go back to abominations like the DOS 2 skill system, the DOS 2 itemization, the DOS 2 progression curve or the DOS 2 armor system, they can do whatever IP they want for all I care.

Even a DOS 3, sure.

Oh that is a good shout. Though given that it was not that long ago since a studio were making very competent games within that franchise I don't see the reins getting passed over so soon.

I think Bethesda is working on something like that right now.

Didn't they also say in that same interview that no DLC is currently in the works?

That's not to say there WON'T be DLC coming, I imagine there is probably going to be a lot over the coming years given how successful the base game looks to be turning out.

But it means whatever he mentioned was likely a different game. Unlikely to be BG4 at this early stage, so that leaves either DOS3 or an unknown IP (new or licensed, either or).

Personally I'd love it if they left DOS alone for a little bit and continued to do get licenses for existing properties that don't have good modern games/studios behind them, but I wouldn't say no to a DOS3 either, the studio's earned the right to make whatever they want and I'll buy it regardless at this point, their work on BG3 has seen to that!

I'd love it if they came out and said Fallout, but I doubt Bethesda has finished ruining it yet.

I truly hope Larian is given a chance to give it a shot. With how successful BG3 is, they’d be mad not to at least entertain the thought.
