Why is Wizard DC check for quarterstaff topple skill using spell DC?
I noticed that the wizard DC for spells is being used as the DC check for topple when using a quarterstaff. Is that a core rule, or something Larian put in? I thought all melee weapon checks were strength or dex dependant to dictate DC for melee skills. Am I missing something?

That topple action isn't in the core rules in the first place, those extra proficiency actions are entirely homebrew by larian to make martials a bit more interesting and give them more toys

But if it actually uses your spell save dc, thats probably unintended.

They probably used spell DC as a placeholder then. I was totally expecting the skill to check against defense as an attack -- which, IMO, it should be anyway. They should be in the category of weapon dependent feats.

Thanks for the response. I usually play either ADnD 2e or DnD 3.Xe anyway, so I have little knowledge on 5e core rules beyond video games.

Or maybe they did it so that the quarterstaff skill wouldn't become completely useless for a mage to use, of which the majority of quarterstaff users will be, making adding it pointless. Sometimes D&D rules have to take a backseat to the game design.

I just checked after the nautiloid crash. It's a bug. Topple is now reflecting an attack feat with a dex saving throw to negate being knocked down.

Edit: However, they still use the wizard DC derived from Int to dictate the DC for the saving throw. I guess it's class specific DC to blanket all skills using a DC check for saving throws for weapon specific skills (?)

I think it will be any class can because I just found out it was using my class DC to dictate the base difficulty class of the saving throw roll anyway -- checked against the dex save of the monster.

Edit: Sorry, I meant dex save vs. wizard DC 13 from intelligence and proficiency bonus
