Question about paladin + sorceror
So I was having issues picking between paladin and sorc and then I realized I could combine the 2 so I read around and found something with 2 in paladin and rest in sorc, focusing on strength and charisma, secondary on stamina.
My question is, is this an easy class to play? I need it easy :)
I was thinking of doing some tanking and throwing spells around. seems good to me.

I'll let a 5e veteran correct me. But what I'm worried about gish builds/melee-magic builds is they probably need a concentration spell to survive being in the front line, but doesn't that put their concentration die rolling 24/7 if they're tanking/dodging hits and having to concentrate?

This does not really answer your question, op, but IMO this is a valid concern since concentration to maintain spells is a thing.

Thx for the help.

If you want just more armor for your sorcerer, 2 levels of paladin is fine and as you said, easy. If you take only 2 levels, just ignore increasing strength, increase charisma and take around 14 strength in character creation and leave it at that, in my opinion. If you want to use melee weapons, you should consider taking 5 levels for extra attack and then at 6th level you will have charisma modifier added to all your saving throws. That will postpone your sorcerer levels and spells lot more, but would be a lot better in my opinion in melee than just 2 levels of paladin for sorcerer.

So what you are saying is go 2 level on Pala but keep stg to 14 and just be a more defensive sorc or go to lvl 6(or only to 5 and then sorc is 6?) in pala and be more of a frontline melee with spells? If I go the second route, could you tell me how stats should look like? Thx.

The power of Sorcadin is kind of customizable. You can start Sorcerer for Con Save Proficiency, or Pally start for the Heavy Armor. The main draw is that they want to "nova", which means pumping out ridiculous damage with Divine Smite. This usually uses resources quite quickly, but is very effective.

The reason it's strong with Sorcerer is because you can regain spell slots with Sorcerer Points.

My problem with multi-classing a full caster like a sorceror is you limit their spell progression. Limiting spell progression might defeat the point of having levels in a spell casting class, so choose carefully.

Yeah, for melee build I would go to paladin 6 first, then the rest in sorcerer. For stats I would do with point buy: STR 16 DEX 10 CON 13 INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 16. CON 13 is low, but on level 4 I would take the feat Resilient CON to get it to 14 and giving you CON saving throw proficiency, which is really important to melee casters. After that, just boost your STR.

I'm actually planning to play this character when the game releases, taking the Ancients paladin to level 6 with Resilient CON feat at level 4. Levels 7 - 10 I would take sorcerer levels and take wild magic sorcerer (I like the concept of Ancients paladin with wild magic, tickles my fancy with feywild flavor :D). At level 10 boost STR to 18 and finish the build with 2 more levels of paladin for resistance to all spell damage at Ancients paladin level 7 and one more stat boost (I'll probably boost CHA).

Final stats would then be STR 18 DEX 10 CON 14 INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 18. Most used spells would be Bless for concentration and Shield.

For sorcerer metamagic Quickened would be important to buff yourself with mirror images as a bonus action.

Here's a link to an article that has a sample Sorcadin build laid out with a bit of reasoning and some tips. I think it could help you.

This. It also lists the cantrips that will make most sorcadin builds possible.

If you want to maximize what makes Paladins great, I think Vengeance Paladin 2/Sword Bard 10 is in many ways a better Paladin than a Paladin, albeit with some awkward levels between 5-8 that you may want to respec around. Sorcadins have much blastier spells and metamagic, and if the weapon cantrips are in they give up relatively little to continue doing great Sorcerer stuff but wearing heavy armor and smiting fools that try to get into melee with them.

Hmm sounds like a terrible combination but what would i know

Sorcadin is great multi if you done well. There are few ways to do it.

2/10 split, 6/6 splits, and 7/5 split

2/10 split
This is basically battlemage, you mainly gain the benefit of heavy armor and also can use some paladin stuff like lay of hand. you can also melee plus divine smite. Haste will be your extra attack replacement. turn one quicken spell haste, then go smash your enemy (bonus if this game have greenflame blade)

sorcadin melee main damage output is use highest spellslot for smite, as full caster your spell slots progression are much higher than normal paladin, you can effectively use lvl5 spellslots to smite enemy much early that normally only accessible by lvl17 paladin

6/6 splits
This is more balance between Paladin and Sorcerer, smite is still your main offensive damage output, but you gain extra attack plus paladin plus aura of protection. your defensive ability is much higher than 2/10 split due to aura of protection

7+/x split
it not really worth it to go lvl7+ if you want to multi class with paladin. you mainly do it for oath aura, so it really depends on your build and synergy you are aimming to achieve.

for example, conquest paladin (not part of BG3 subclass) aura can lockdown enemy that is frightened to 0 movement speed. but as i mention this is very specific and most of the subclass are not worth it to get paladin over lvl6

Also one more thing about 2/10 split vs 6/6 split. do you want to be more mage or paladin.

with 2/10 split (paladin/sorcerer btw)
you have early access to higher sorcerer spells, you have much higher versatility because you have access to misty step, mirror image, fly, fireball...etc

while 6/6 split
you are more a melee figher
Yojo0o Jul 24, 2023 @ 5:04am
The 2/10 split really wants you to have access to Booming/Green Flame Blade to Quicken them as a pseudo-Extra Attack. Since BG3 doesn't have these, I'm skeptical of that level split. At that point, I might rather just have Fighter levels for Action Surge, one level of Cleric for armor/heals/cantrips, or just go full Sorcerer.

More of a spellcaster sounds better I think. If things don't go well, I will just respect and try the other one.
