Hirelings confirmed to not be fully customizable
If you don't like the games companions, then you're stuck with the goofy and/or cringe ahh ahh hirelings or using the annoying and counter intuitive Multiplayer exploit. Looks like the good folks at Larian didn't "hear us loud and clear".
Hard Larian L.

Do you have a link where this was confirmed?

He is partially right. You can change their stats. But not their looks. Hirelings are not like normal Origin companions. They are hired for a while until you can fill your party with a Origin companion or want to solo mostly. Not meant to be permanent companions.

No link but Fextralife, a Youtuber who does a lot of content on BG3, had it to the respec guy and in the menu for the Hirelings there is no option to customize their appearance. Still a small chance that Larian wises up and adds the option before or after launch, but I doubt it.

Yes, they are both non-customizable and are only temporary. So in other words, completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worthless.

I seriously do not think it will change. The game as of today, has gone Gold. As in, it's done and ready for release. The Youtubers will get to play it in 5 days.

There is the work around Co-op custom char you can do. But the one question I have using those is, how can you dismiss them? I wouldn't do that if you are stuck with them the rest of the run. :P

Lol. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are worthless. Might be handy in some cases. For some players.

That is a very good point. When use the multiplayer exploit, you'd have to be careful and pre-plan your to make way for companions you might actual want.
"Mods will fix it" is a very hand wavey response to stupid things the developers add/didn't add, but it seems like I'll have to wait for a modder to add custom mercenaries.

Larian's poor attempt at mimicking Pathfinder Kingmaker's mercenary system. They're temporary companions with no story or personality and only exist to fill out a missing role in your party if you kill or dismiss one or more of the games very limited roster of companions. Many people like me thought that they would be permanent additions and fully customizable.

Oh... i think i'd just solo it at that point. are the regular companions customizeable? (if i wanted to like change Astarion's hair or something?)

not something that matters to me personally but it's such an achingly simple thing to goof up that I can't help but ask why
hopefully there will AT LEAST be a vanity mirror for changing appearance

Temporary companions which can join your party to fill in a slot(s) to make up your party of 4. can be useful if you do not want any or all of the starting early areas companions when you first meet them. You hire mercenaries to fill a role until you get to some other companion to recruit them. That is one example.

You can change the Origin companion's class, subclass, stats, but not their visuals, race or story reactions and dialog.

Uhhhh no. Hirelings have been a part of D&D for ages. They aren't mimicking Pathfinder lol! Pathfinder is based off of D&D...

For the hirelings? If so, there won't be.
