No Way to pick patron god if not a cleric?
I might have just missed it, but is there no way for example to be a paladin of Ilmater or something?

well that's kinda lame... normally these games let you pick god even if there's no serious impact, it's a fun thing that's actually important in the setting because of the whole wall of souls thing unbelievers get shoved into.
theres a mod that will let you pick regardless of your class but i cannot confirm personally if it gives you any dialogue tags. shouldnt be that hard to implement tho

I think in the time this is set, the wall of the faithless is no longer being added to.

I believe the decision to remove deity choice was a WotC choice for 5e but I may be wrong about this.

What is the wall of the faithless?

I think some religion things are tied to race as well. My half wood elf character got a unique dialogue to argue about the teachings of Silvanus with Kagha.

First, the Mask of the Betrayer expansion for Neverwinter Nights 2 - highly recommend.

The Wall of the Faithless is/was the wall surrounding The City of Judgement / The City of the Dead. It was created by the god Myrkul to punish people who didn't worship the gods:

The Wall was created by Myrkul as a means of disposing faithless souls. Unlike those judged False, this judgement is unwavering; regardless of alignment or deeds, those with no patron deity to claim them were doomed to be absorbed into the wall, facing suffering and eventual oblivion. This suffering is part of the core reasons Akachi and Kaelyn the Dove launched crusades against the injustice of the wall. When Kelemvor became the God of the Dead, the Wall was one of the few systems of Myrkul's tenure that remained intact.

Granted I didnt look hard but if you take the cleric feat at lvl 4 do you pick a god?

You can play how you wish, even if the option doesn't appear on a menu. In tabletop I encouraged players to choose a deity if they wished, for rp. Even if they aren't getting spells, a fighter defending his faith is more interesting than just another fighter.

It is not Lame. The Vocation of a Paladin is different than a Cleric.

If you played BG2, and went to the Temple District, you could even see that each God had their own Temple. Helm, Tyr...

So it make sense. Since the Gods also had alignements. Some were neutral, some were Evil.

Yes. You pick it in your head.

Gameplay effect no. You propably realize that Larian cannot code reactions all things existing inside game.
