Unplayable Crashing, crashing black screen.
ive run this game about 5 hours just to try fix to play without getting at random incoming black screen ingame.
When that happens my pc still runs like nothing happened with game sounds normal but the screen at my monitor has blackout and using Shift-Alt or Ctl-Alt-delete doesnt work, my only options is push the pc power button for shutdown.
I cant continue with that or i will break my system or worse to happen just for try playing this game.

Ive tried
- Reset into new game again ( thoughts corrupt save file )
- Nvidia update on driver. ( even tried to roll back )
- Re-installed Nvidia Graphic card.
- balance in-game settings graphic to medium and even low ( my pc can handle games on ultra )
- switched into Window mode and Full Window.
- changed resolution 1080 x 1920 ( 60-59 )
- RAM check

Nvidia GeForce RTX3070
IntelCore i7-10700 2.90GH
16 RAM

Sounds like your PC has issues. Try to see what it says in event viewer when you have these issues.

What are your PCIE settings (UEFI BIOS). If it's auto then change them to GEN4.
Does your GPU get enough power?
Other than that. Idk...reinstall os or change memory sticks.

Yup crash on boot. BG stands for Boot Game.
your system is broken. nothing to do with the game

Have you submitted a ticket to Larian?
Bjakkzzz Jul 24, 2023 @ 12:53pm
ive managed to play a bit further by reseting new character ( possible maybe corrupt save file i thought ) ive noticed that my graphic card goes overheating so ive put a fan to cool it down, now i just get random black screen once in a while so i keep constantly save game on every actions ( battle, cutscenes and dialogs ).

I think this causes from my Graphic card got a bit broke? my graphic card has its latest drive update and it works on my other 50 games with not problems can this still be the issuee with my graphic card or Samsung S32 TV Led monitor ? ( the tv monitor btw 5 years old maybe it cant handle the latest pixels and color updates? )

No I havent submitted a ticket, thanks for pointing to Larian but i think the problem lies on probably my TV monitor by researching or the graphic card something has gone totaly wrong with it because its overheating while playing new games like BG3, The sons of The forest then i get this blackscreen.

Hey sorry for late respons, i did tried to changes this by go into bios but it seems i cant change, i even tried to see if i could possible overclock by nvidia control panel but that was not even possible my graphic card doesnt allow it at all it seems.

Same to you sorry for late answers, i tried to reseach also on event viewer but couldnt find any errors or critical errors which was very strange so i figured this must be my samsung TV monitor got this problem or something gone very wrong with my graphic card.

You could try rolling back the graphics card driver. The latest drivers aren't always the best ones, especially if they're beta drivers, and also if the game has been years in development. The game runs fine on my 4 years old drivers and Windows 7 (protected by 0patch) so the latest isn't always the best.

Just a black screen doesn't really scream overheating to me, I'd expect the whole system to shut down or reboot.

Do you have a second monitor that you could run GPU-Z on to track what your GPU is doing as you play?

How do you recover your PC when it goes to black screen? Can you alt-tab? Ctrl-Shift-Del? Do you have to turn off at power switch?

I doubt it will be the monitor, though I had random black screens because of a bad hdmi cable once. Still an unlikely source, though and you would experience that everywhere, not only in a certain game.
"it only happens in one game" is never something that means it can't be the gpu. It's very possible only a certain part of the GPU is broken and the other games just don't need that part.
Especially if the GPU already overheated there is a good chance that something is wrong with the GPU, but without further diagnostics there isn't much to tell. Sadly I'm not up to date with GPU benchmarks. Try some tools like furmark (if it still is current) or 3d mark. you might have to let them run for quite a while. Watch the temps, wait until the temps stop rising and then let it run for 30 min or so. If you can do that with 2 or 3 of them, chances are decent that it isn't your gpu (but it's still possible that these test also didn't use the part of the GPU that's broken, so you still won't have 100% confirmation.
Also do similar test with other components. especially defective ram can be the cause for all kind of weird behavior. Use memtestx86, and let it run for a good 30-60 minutes...the longer the better.
Those obviously are just some basics. You might wanna check with specialized forums for hardware diagnostics, or with someone you know/paid who has direct access to your system, if the above didn't help. That's almost always more sensible then trying to find help here. They usually have the current tools, can help you diagnose minidumps/errorlogs etc.

The bad thing is i cant alt-tab or even make Ctrl-Shift-Del, only to shutdown by power switch and yes i know i will one time break my pc, thats why i want to find a way to stop the black screen issue before more worse to happen.

About that with second monitor, no i dont have, i had thoughts on buy me a new one if thats the case to solve this, then i defently go tmrrw and get a new one.

Thank you, i tried to see if possible to rollback from my vers. 536.67, this was released last week date 18/7 but at Device manager - its greyed out for able to roll back, but that sounded defently a good idea wanted to do so instead i re-installed the driver and will see if that helped.

Don't spend much on a second monitor, just buy a cheap secondhand one as it may not help at all using GPU-Z.

I hope the Driver roll-back helps, let us know and if not, we'll try thinking through other solutions.

You'd be surprised at the things that can cause issues. For years I couldn't play any Borderlands games as I was only getting 5fps. Turned out it was the drivers for my USB ports were out of date and causing conflict with my mouse. The weird thing was, it was only those games it affected.

I had this happen to me at one point and the only thing I think I did was switch from whichever of Vulkan or DirectX I was using (the setting in the launcher), I'd try that and cross your fingers

Im glad this solved for you, i did that before with whiching, im familiar with playing with directx 9-10-11 and 12, but i did took and read on google around that this game cant handle directx11 yet because its still in the development so i first time do play with Vulkan.

It seems this re-installment for the driver helped and solved the case :)
