Beast tamer. More than just familiar?
As the question poses.... We've seen many choices matter in the game. From class to race and background. But will a rangers choice of taking the beast tamer mean 'more' than just getting find familiar at lvl 1 and cast it for free? Will taking the beast tamer allow for...taming of beast you otherwise couldn't tame? I know there is not 'taming' in the game per say... but would it allow for perhaps some exotic animal you normally wouldn't have if you take it? We might not know based on the Early Access alone but it would be a cool feature. If you take it you could get a Winter wolf or something down the line.

Hmm also ponders if the beast companion scales with your levels in Beast Master or your character level in general. If i recall correctly i think the beast companion scaled with your total level in the PHB. Or got its own feats based on your total level? don't recall entirely.

You get an Animal Companion Spell when you spec into the subclass you know...
You can have both the falimiar and the animal companion out at the same time even.

Tamer is just familiar.
And I'd assume beast companion will scale with your Beast-master lvl not your Character lvl.
It would be pretty OP if it scaled with you Character lvl.
But we'll have to wait for full release to try how it actually is implemented.
Feat for that, like in Pathfinder, would be sweet though, but it's not in 5E rules I think.

I have vague memories of the PHB beast master... i need to find the book to confirm. But the only hope of the pathfinder feat "Boon companion" would be through mods :P

God bless mods!

You can? I recall one replacing the other. Am I confused or was this changed in a patch?

You get beast tamer in lvl 1 (the find familiar spell) you get beast Master archetype in lvl 3. Which gives you "summon animal companion" or the like. One does not replace the other but in earlier patches you could not have both the familiar and companion out at the same time. Now you can (was patched at some point)

Thanks! I probably would never have noticed this because I remember it working the other way.
