Pretty close. You can't do all actions, like Ready and Delay aren't implemented.

There are several small differences. Too many to name here :)

That's reassuring. I used to play D&D (quite a long time ago), and need a rules refresh to raise my game and get my tactics up to scratch.

That's a real in depth answer. Many thanks. I'm going afk to read up.

Haven't went too deep but "must use point buy" listed as fundamental change is funny. I feel like most DMs require their players to use one method to generate your ability scores. This isn't really some radical departure from the system. Also as far as I'm aware magic item attunement isn't even in PHB (although it is in SRD).

That was an amazing list. Good read. Some small mistakes like it for example it doesnt look like you can respec race, magic hand can do some extra stuff and "Worth emphasizing..." on charm person/chromatic orb etc.

Keep up the good work. For sure we will see some new stuff at launch.

I have been heavily into 5e rules, DMing, and even used to coordinate local games WotC since around the first year 5e was released. Larian uses an overhauled adaptation of D&D 5e for the purpose of this game. However, the book rules still give a really good understanding of how everything works.

As somebody who plays a LOT of DnD, I consider BG3's implementation of rules to be pretty damn good.
Miqi Jul 23, 2023 @ 8:25am
It's based off of DnD 5E.
But Larian has taken its creative freedom to make it a better player experience.
And made some homerules to alter some classes to make them fit better within the lvl 12 Cap.

Gear also works vastly different but IMO in a way more interesting way than DnD 5E tabletop
It's like your DM is sometimes asleep. How many arrows can I fire before they will bother to go check out whats happening to them?

I think it is complicated even further because of different editions of DnD

oh man, did they nerf my favorite ability of shadowheart's. The duplicate got screwed : / I was really looking forward to using that ability a lot, for both offensive and healing.

Yaeh all latest campaigns for years have been using point buying system. I old gold box computer games from 80s there was rolling the stats system…

Just to be clear, I'm not the one who redacted or updated this list. It was just shared on reddit sometime ago.
