Indie means independent from people who could influence the production.
Tripple A is a grading of the quality/production value.
If we're differentiating between small and large games, we shouldn't be using "indie". Relative size is an implication of the indie label, but fundamentally the distinction is whether or not the developer is independent.
It will probably not be nominated for indy, because the majority confuses both things, and thus would feel strange about it, but it would fit the indie category perfectly well.
BG3 is an indie tripple a title. It's simply an extreme edge case, where those definitions break apart.
I hope a decent DA4 gets out, they've said the right things about it so far but we're still a long way off from the actual game. Plenty of time for EA to ♥♥♥♥ it all up.
