Inconsistent lag/video performance on alt-tab or loading
I have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16 gig ram, and an RTX 2060. I've dialed down the settings so I have a stable frame rate and (mostly) smooth running game with my older hardware. The issue is that I can play for an hour or two without any issues, but then either Alt-Tab out and back or load a save and now my FPS is in the single digits and all loading slows to a crawl.

I've closed all my other programs and everything else I can think of to isolate the issue and can't figure out why sometimes the game runs fine and others it struggles to run at all.

Any ideas or prior threads that have dealt with this before? Thanks.

Sorry to ask but have you tried the obvious - updating your drivers?

You have it installed on a SSD? And why are you alt/tab out?
Try borderless windowed mode, if you haven't already.
When alt-tabbing fullscreen apps, windows might send them to a sleep state, meaning windows might put them into the pagefile.
This get's even worse, if you have your pagefile on a hdd.

Borderless Window FTW. The computer starts to split its resources when you alt-tab and depending on your CPU, really slow on the uptake. ie youre CPU is being a bottleneck (AMD also is weird with this). Highly recommend playing borderless, it would eliminate the issue

That's a good point.
