so with the way ASI is going to be. does that mean half orc will be the best race to be as a caster now?

Probably wood elf, halfling, or something that gets free armor profs, depending on what caster type and what you value.

Probably because you survive an attack, that would down you, on 1 hp once per long rest. Though I feel at that point you already ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and other racial bonuses that could prevent the situation in the first place would be more useful

Half-Orcs will be probably best melee. They will also be best spell casters because of Superior dark vision & without any penalty like drows. Do not get me started on human character.
Removing stat limitations gave us delusion of equality.

If that's the concern, armor sounds like the way to go for me. Gith seems solid, minor extra spellcasting and a few weapon skills.

Currently, it's the reality of human inferiority, no delusions in sight about that.

Zairel Tiefling is another contender for best melee, as they pick up two Smites/day.

If you mean Savage Attacks, it only works for melee weapon attacks.
