Speaking of GREAT JRPG music, give Astlibra Revision a look. It has a huge range of genres it takes inspiration from: https://youtube.com/watch?v=He9-xCwiqMY&list=PLwVzO-i3_UbQ2Rph6i65yIfQ0Qtc3iI48&index=100&pp=iAQB8AUB
I like that song.
Also Alfiras song too.
it's obvius the music can't be something who hit hard cause the gameplay kinda chill and tactical and need to match whats goin on on screen unlike genshin etc where you only smash button most of the time...
but at this point seems like people try to found everything they can to trash the game lol
and people talk about lack of variety in bg3? you can find on ytb a full soundtrack (6h) from EA launch... (maybe more at full release?) thats more than most of rpg out here who repeat 5 song in a loop... like come on
That doesn't work in cRPGs.
In an RPG, timing is much more important than, for example, in a strategy game like Crusader Kings... in a strategy game you can actually play some YouTube battle music in the background without trouble.
When my party is engaged in a dramatic battle, I don't want to have dreamy flute music playing in the background. When I'm involved in a romance, dramatic battle music in the background gets in the way...
The music has to fit the scene. You can't (or only with great difficulty) mod it.
Here Larian would have had to shell out money to write his own music like Owlcat did in his cRPGs.

Thanks for the link... here's one from me. :)

Owlcat has composed more than 70 of his own pieces of music for WotR and had them played by an orchestra.
There is a perfectly fitting soundtrack for almost every situation in the game, for example when certain NPCs appear in a scene, and of course there are special soundtracks for different zones and fights, especially boss fights. All this contributes immensely to a harmonious atmosphere.

Like a lot of things about the game, it reminds me of Dragon Age Origins. Which I also don't think did anything special music wise, despite how much I absolutely love that game.
