but yeah, in a real D&D game, the enemies may not attack you cause the dm can roleplay as them.
this is a video game however, so there isn't a lot you can do to make an AI respond organically like that, so combat starts.
Yeah in the options check to make sure karmic dice are off for sure, especially if you are reloading for outcomes. Karmic dice seem to be loaded in the save file and if you are in a negative karma state you pretty much can't beat it and it doesn't seem to have a bias of which mode you are in, if you rolled good for an entire combat your next set of speech choices ate gonna suffer for that luck or vice versa sometimes. It basically loads the dice in an attempt to keep it near 10 average but it's not a great loaded system overall.
The spell description tells you this, so you really should have expected it unless you're just using spells on random people to see what they do.
*MIGHT*, not always, not likely, not most assuredly. MIGHT. If they accost you 100% of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time, it is not a a MIGHT, it is "They will most certainly accost you after casting the spell". The in-game spell description is misleading and the cantrip is a trap. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Diplomats aren't supposed to use brain-washing magic on people they are attempting to negotiate with, that's what Charisma based skills are for. 😁
I love the fact that the Friends cantrip gets this reaction from time to time, it's hilarious!
Every NPC has an approval bar - getting caught using Friends (or Charm Person) on them lowers their approvsl. Lower it enough, and they'll attack.
