Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

Statistiche:
Is Wisdom and Intelligence useless for Sorcerer in combat?
For role-playing reasons I want to create a charismatic, intelligent and wise Sorcerer. But according to what I've read this is not a good idea for combat. Instead I should go for Dexterity/Constitution in addition to Charisma. Don't Intelligence and Wisdom give any bonuses for combat? I know they contribute to the saving throw (so defense) - but is that good enough or do I have to dump most of my extra points into Dexterity/Constitution?

I think what the OP wants to make can work on normal or lower difficulty. It would be great at the dialogue checks/face character of the party. This game will place at least as much importance on these skill checks as combat, if early access is anything to go by. The only time I can see combat effectiveness becoming critical is during 'boss fights' that you might not be leveled up/geared up enough for.
So, there's only ONE use for intelligence for a sorcerer in combat, and that's with the Arcana skill with counterspelling.

How it works: Counterspell is a 3rd level mage spell. if an enemy casts a spell near the character with Counterspell, they can use their reaction to counter the spell. Both parties roll opposed Arcana checks. if the counterspeller rolls higher on Arcana, they interrupt their opponent's spell.

Because Arcana is an INT skill, that means a Sorcerer with a high INT is better at counterspelling.

That of course, is if they implement Counterspell in the full product and do so according to the core D&D5 rules.

Otherwise, INT and WIS would only be used for the respective ability saving throws.

5e, counterspell doesnt use arcana

"If it is casting a spell of 4th level or higher, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a success, the creature's spell fails and has no effect."

Huh, I recall playing in a ruleset where an Arcana check was involved in the counterspell mechanics. I'll have to check my sources again.

But what really matters is how it's implemented in BG3. Do you know what their counterspell implementation is? I haven't tested it, and it's always possible they'll change how it works in the full product compared to early access.

Seeing as right now there aren't any spells above third level, it's not confirmed. It does however state that higher level spells will be harder to counter. We'll have to see, though I strongly imagine it'll be a check using your casting ability.
Wisdom saves are pretty common tho. And Best Skill Perception needs it.
Do Sorcerers get perception as a class skill? Wisdom saves can be pretty common though. I figure Sorcerers want to go for the bluff/perform/persuade/intimidate skills instead though.

Sorcerous Sailors tho. Or wood elves.

There’s a headband in game very early on that gives you 17 int. That’s what I’m after because I’m building a sorc11/wiz1. You find it in the blighted village from 1 on the 3 trolls. Good luck.
If you want a wizard or sorcerer that is highly resistant to CC and spells, pump into INT, CHA and WIS, you'll be paper towards non magical damage though.
