If you go to the DND Beyond website you can look at all the rules and such.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjxf6P8Ybok
After that it depends on how much you want to avoid/have spoilers.
Me? I've been dodging them actively and refuse to even go past a very early point in act one as of yet, because I want my first release play to be as spoiler free as possible.
If you're more asking how D&D5e rules work so you don't bork a build- there's and SRD (system reference document) that has all the basic rules available on the web. Just google " "5e D&D SRD"- it'll tell you all the stuff like about abillity scores, what classes are for and what they can do, different types of materials for weapons and armor (like silver/mithril/etc) and what they do mechanically, as well as how skills function.
Not all of it transfers 1:1 because videogames lose something in translation, and not all the options are in, but it's a good place to get a handle on the terms and what they mean to you as the player so you don't end up playing, for example, a barbarian with 8str and 17 int. (doable but I would not recommend)
My advice, is to avoid delving into multi classing just yet since that usually require some knowledge of a build.
Try to put more stats on things you are supposed to be good at (e.g. if you are sorcerer, put more stat on Charisma and ability checks that benefit it. Doesn't need to be 100% min max, you can have a lil bit of fun too). This alone would get you pretty far.
Hold ALT a lot while exploring to highlight items. if you loot and sell valuables, money shouldn't be an issue.
Since the game is using DnD 5th ed as the base, you can prob look up what each of those class does and work: what do they get and what class feature are special to them.
It might not translate 100% but it does give a good general idea.
And always do what your character background likely do. That's how you'd get inspiration points (with cap of 4). You can use them to re-roll particularly bad roll without save scumming.
A cleric is usually more focused on healing and religion, but depend on the build it allows you to both tank and cast spells in the front line.
Paladin is similar with some difference in that they are usually more damage dealer focus.
i recommend reading this 2 article that showcase the basic of the class (not including the sub class feature)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/cleric
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/paladin
again, some things might not translate 100%, but should still give you a good general idea
There's also the Eldritch Knight subclass for Fighters. Fighter having the added advantage of being one of the easiest classes to understand. They will need either Strength or Dexterity depending on their choice of weapon, and Intelligence for their spellcasting.
Paladins are also technically melee+magic but maybe not in the way you're envisioning, their spells are mostly support/protective and they typically use a lot of their spell slots on Divine Smite to boost their melee damage. They usually use Strength-based weapons and their spellcasting is based off Charisma.
I would not recommend multiclassing if you don't consider yourself experienced.
