You have both options, you don't lose inspiration.
Well, to be clear, Valor bards have "combat inspiration" with more flexibility on what you can roll it for. But all bards get basic inspiration.
I am not sure what you are trying to achieve with the Cleric Bard Combo - A cleric 12 levels is better at Ranged dps/heals/Off tank/Support than a Cleric/Bard. A Bard 12 levels is also better than the Multiclass,
Bard is a great class and so is Cleric but mashing them together will probably end in a lesser character. DnD 5e seems to be a balanced game, you are not going to get a character that can do everying, (Ranged DPS/Heals/Off tank/support) - if you could do all those roles well in a DnD party on table top, then no one else need both playing. And BG3 is essentially that TT experience
Pick a lane one or two things, then build a character accordingly.
I am talking in terms of optimisation - you may be talking in terms of fun, in which case what I am saying is irrelevant. I don't want to be the "your having fun wrong" guy.
I mean, Pallock can do all those specific jobs with 7 Paladin 5 warlock. But not until character level 9 or so.
And there other jobs - CC, melee DPS - and other competencies - Bard has different support with inspiration than Paladin does with auras. No one will get literally all of them, but Bard is a great chassis for being good at a bunch of them.
