Download Time
Will we be able to download the game early ( 150+ gb will take a lot of time in my case ) or the download will only be up on release date?

there's no preload

No preload. Download time will depend on your internet connection.

You might want to stock up on snacks and drinks,

Because you'll be spending the entirety of August 3rd downloading this behemoth.

I'm honestly surprised that there's no preload considering the filesize. I'm not personally impacted as I've got fast internet and it'll probably take just over 20 minutes - but not everyone is so lucky.

PS5 version is going to be out before anyone in Australia gets to play!

imagin if it's 200gb, will have to keep the PC up for a literal week

ea games don't have preloads, nothing surprising about it

the requirement is 150gb, the download will be smaller as it's compressed

.... To piggyback off this discussion post:

If we have the EA version available now ... do we have to uninstall this to re-download the full game at release or will steam just automatically patch itself to the full release?

I have a ton of factory/city/colony builder type games that started in EA and went full release and it seemed to just kinda... happen? But they were much smaller than BG3 so could have easily overnight updated and didnt notice.

it will be an update if you already have it installed, but the size of the update is not known at this time

Nothing official on that I've seen. A lot of the release version basics like the CC and some VO work as well as a chunk of the map and encounters are being reworked or expanded on, so it could well require a full install instead of a patch.

actual download will probably 'only' be around half that or even smaller.

Which all of that could be done in a update. It is common for early access games to just have a update to bring the client to a full release version.

I don't think those who have the EA still installed, are going to get a error warning, they need to uninstall the EA before the full version will install. :p

With a little luck, it will be a sequential download allowing you to start playing before the whole thing sits on your drive.

If not, I'll go back to work for two days pretending I got better and then have a relapse 48h later...

I don't think that will be available.

It releases on a Thursday. You work on weekends?

Actually, I work from home whenever I want as long as I don't miss the deadline :steamhappy:
Didn't stop me explaining I won't be avaible for a bit. But nobody's gullible, everybody's going "maintenance for a few days - come back later" on August 3 and September 6 :claugh:
