Monk and multiclassing
I like the monk concept, but I am gonna play with others and hope that I would not be too much burden to other players. So I am asking how and what multi-classing will allow monk, but make it viable enough.

Is it better to take some other class first and then move to the monk, or otherwise around.
And what are the classes that you consider good options for Monk/something combinations and why.

In tabletop I play Goliath monk that did have have level of Barbarian at level one and use way of the Drunken master (to stay alive), Really fun, and because DM can put difficulty down because my character is more like meme :) it works somewhat. And offer really fun RP elements, when I try to act and use that to confuse opponents...
But in computer game the character should stand at its own without DM help.

monk is being homebrewed by larian so they keep up with other classes i am not sure what those are because i'm not personally interested in monk but yeah keep that in mind.

One huge homebrew is that any weapon the character has proficiency in is considered a monk weapon, size does not matter. This comes to us from fextralife. He uses the example of great sword.

Humans will have polearms proficiency, so this points to a human monk having a glaive as a monk weapon.

Keep in mind that fextralife is the only source for this, and he could simply be wrong.

Ok. Thanks!
Maybe more info available when more people get to game. At this moment people who are familiar with core 5th edition can give some insight.

Monk is getting some buffs, notably more ki.

The only common monk multiclass I can think of off the top of my head is shadow monk / rogue (in 5e).

Monk barbarian works. You use rage with flurry to add damage to all your attacks, which adds up to a lot of attacks especially if the monk has a greater ki pool. Monk with berserker barbarian should be especially effective for burst damage.

You can even go strength and con as main stats and use barbarians unarmoured defense, meaning you solve a lot of monk issues. Not just higher damage but higher health and much better defenses when raging.

In the table top you have to use str based attacks to get rage damage. Not sure if they allow dex based attacks for rage damage in this game.

Interesting!
Many thanks so far!

Monk is not a very multiclass friendly build. Its MAD or multi attribute dependent and monk just does better solo. An exception being moon druid monk might be worth it depending on how they handle the combo and maybe barbarian monk if you can get the 2 extra rage damage using Dex based attacks, if not not worth. Normally rage is only on str attacks but who knows in this game.

So still some things needs checking out when final release has happened.
Many thanks for so far!

I don't think a monk would be a burden at all- the open hand monk in Solasta was really solid, plus they make great scouts and their battlefield movement is amazing. Having a quick PC that can shove/knock prone and stun as part of their attacks is great. I think its a sleeper class in tabletop but will really shine in a PC environment that is 3 Dimensional.

I am curious to check the monk out for sure., Especially ninja monk.
