why is it stating that it released on 6 october 2020?

this is confusing me, is baldurs gate a new game? it was just released but why the release date on steam is 6 oct 2020 ???

Check the Community Updates.

And the game releases on August 3rd.

That was the date of early access release, the full release will be 3 August 2023.

The EA only has a portion of Act ! and a great deal of other limitations (ie you can't play as an origin character; you can't progress beyond level 4 or whatever). The full game release on 3 August will be the finished product (all the Acts, progress to level 12, origin characters are playable, more companions, etc).

Happens with every EA title. Release dates stated on the store will always be updated once it's actually released.
