Pally is pretty frontloaded in terms of features, in an ideal world where the level cap would be 14, i'd say 6 Pally, 8 Warlock, cause at 6th lvl the pally get Aura of Devotion, wich is one of the most broken feature ( +CHA mod to ALL saves to anyone in a 10ft radius, paladin included, Death Saves ARE saves by the way)
You want the maximum of Warlock levels, cause of Eldritch Invocations and Pact magic slots
Id say at least pally 7 is just too good to pass up.
5 - Extra attack
6 - saving throw aura
7 - oath ability (ancients is superb)
8 - ASI
Fair. It just sort of continues a progression for me of “just one more level and I will get X,” but I could see an easy argument for giving it up given how good level 5 is for Warlocks (spell slot increase plus invocation plus pact thing).
Whereas I don’t know what Paladins gets at 3, given that oaths show up at 1.
