Also i will say this. #1 rules of drivers. if it ain't broke don't fix it. im still running Nvidia's 531.79 and they work perfect for this game and others. and ill keep these till i encounter a game with issues.
the most important thing for drivers is stability. and latest drivers might not always be the most stable. I learned that first hand from the experts on nvidia's support forums when i had GPU issues. and older drivers they recommended were running much more stable then the newer ones.

they don't run perfect. that is why they release drivers after game launches... wtf are you talking about? dreamland? without adressing drivers for the games, they never run perfect. I think you don't know what perfect means. the game had a very bad timeframe in multiple areas. and this is driver or system related. my system is highend, so only the driver can fix that. and it improved after update. that is why they release drivers. and the latest drivers are stable, cause they are beta tested before... also not right what you said. nivida always waits with the release until it is stable. something still can happen, but the chance to this is VERY low. also the driver just aims for never games to improve performance, and bugfixes. so in 99% of the cases you should update the driver, on new game release. makes total sense.

and yes older drivers can run better. but when was that? years ago I remember. since 4000 series I do not remember one case of this happened. I only had that on my 1080 one or two times where an old driver was better. but this were not drivers that were released for specific games. mostly when they say driver is for xyz game for day one release, you always should download it.

My performance was already fantastic (no slowdowns, hitches, visual anomalies...nothing), so I can't say that the new drivers improved it. But I can say that they didn't create any new issues.

That's with a 2060 super

they update drivers for their 4000 series. not for 2000 series. you wont see any changes for such an old GPU, that is standard poltics how those companies work. on my 1080 I made 20 driver updates, I did not had a single frame more... drivers are only for the new cards to improve. sometimes they fix something on an older version too. but games run nearly always the same. only new cards get less stutter after update.

If you're getting stuttering after the driver update it's because the game's shaders have to be cached again. Once that's done it should perform the same as the previous driver.

They don't run perfect? what? ♥♥♥♥ son, i didn't know you could see how my system runs and notice problems i myself don't even notice in the slightest. damn.
no. my 531.79 drivers run great (these are drivers from MONTHS ago mind you). across all my games. Now those issues you're talking about you had with your drivers. unless those were the exact same drivers im having right now (WHICH I DOUBT) have nothing to do with me.
And the latest drivers are (Most often) stable for the latest games. but can also mess with stability for older games if you're unlucky. and it doesn't mean they run better then older drivers either.

Since the new driver I don't get any big FPS drops/slogging happening over at Waukeens rest.

They are stable for the latest games, and they don't change anything about the old ones. so what you say makes no sense. I know how drivers work, and how companies work, and how systems work. and what I said is true. you should always update on day one after game release, even every developer says that... from their own games. so 99% of the technic people are wrong and you are right? cause you think you are a snowflake? I am 100% sure your system and game does not run perfect. maybe on just ♥♥♥♥ settings. on ultra you would have had stutter as everyone else had. that is why they released a driver for this game. check the facts. 4000 series all run better now. that is for what the drivers are made for. also it will take less power, and be fore efficient, and even protect your hardware cause of this. cause it runs less stressfull... plz update your drivers on day one, if new games release. do not listen to random internet stuff guys. old drivers can work well, but on all those new releases and how companies code nowadays, you should nearly ALWAYS update your driver instant.

Same here 531.79 drivers since the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about older drivers everytime the launcher pops up on my EVGA RTX 3080 ftw ultra and no issues here runs great on 1440p 60 fps locked in. I do always change every game to VSYNC Off in game then in Geforce Control Panel I turn on Fast VSYNC instead of letting the setting in games dictate and it seems to play nice with pretty much all the games I run. Even some at 120fps when the Ultra HD cable lets me select that for my TV's refresh in the resolution settings... Stupid cable pisses me off sometimes

Ofcourse developers say that. imagine if they had to account for all variations of drivers? that'd be impossible. so they base their launch on that 1 driver and fix everything according to that 1 driver. that's why if you have issues. step 1 is to update your driver. and then step 2 is to report the bug so the devs can figure it out while ruling out driver issues. but that doesn't mean you always should when you don't have issues. and drivers are the codes that make sure your GPU communicates with the rest of your device. so ofc it can affect older games. it affects every damned thing on your pc.
and i'm running this game on high with a 3070 TI. perfectly damned fine. no stuttering. no fps drops. nothing. stop making ♥♥♥♥ up that everyone who doesn't have those latest drivers MUST have issues or is running the game on low 720p.
And it's ironic that you're saying "don't listen to random internet stuff guys" YOU ARE RANDOM INTERNET STUFF.
And quite frankly. ill put way more stock in my 25 years of experience and the experts over at nvidia forums that have helped me with issues in the past. then you.

I don't care about your experience. I also have 25 years experience, so what? you think that says something here? what I said is 100% true. Update your drivers if you have new hardware, especially for day one release that is a stutter mess with a sutter timeframe. wtf? and plz stop putting random stuff into facts. then you are wrong here. 3070 runs perfect? damn. yearh then the drivers are for 4000 series users? so what? people with 4000 series should 100% update their drivers for this game. don't update your bios if it runs stable, and you do not change/upgrade your hardware, cause it has very little risk involved. but even there it can help on things you do not see. but for 100% sure update your GPU driver on 4000 series, when a new game releases and invidia even writes that the driver is made for this game. I mean more clear something cannot be. And everyone who has experience, updates their GPU driver. cause 99% of the time it is not a downgrade. only old drivers on old series cause the problems you mentioned, where old drivers ran better.

and for the 4000 series you should update. especially for dlss you should already do it. no questions about that. and for the rest of the GPU usage and how it works also. this is not even a topic for arguing, those are facts. as I said, you are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ snowflake in your fake world. "oh my system runs perfect" oh I am so special. read forums, check driver updates and comments. for many users it did not run perfect. so ty they released a driver. just update your driver guys, don't follow random theories from the internet that are not practical. thank you bro. from technical standpoint all 4000 series users who play baldurs gate 3 should update their drivers on day1.

everyone who has knowledge does that. when you have really NO ISSUES, you do not have to do that. but mostly on day 1 games there are issues, and you should do it. the drivers get released when needed... that is why they do it. otherwise they would not have released it. damn those kid logics. nvidia does not release drivers randomly. when there is no need for updating drivers, nvidia does not release them. there can be months without release. but on day1 games they try to opzimize, which they clearly did here. update drivers guys, and ignore random trash talk. ty. that you are triggered on the internet by facts is your failure, not mine. I have an 4000 series, and the driver helped a lot. so everything I said is true. we talk about baldurs gate 3, not about your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ past experience from old cards and old games... damn. stop putting random stuff through the internet. 4000 users should update their drivers and try it out. plz stay true. I am glad nvidia adressed the issues fast and early on. I was sure an driver comes out today for this stutter mess, and it did. on ultra the game ran pretty poor for such an easy code.

Not sure, if it did, since my performance was OK. Maybe my card is staying cooler now?
