BG3 is the highest rated game of 2023 on metacritic.
It currently sits at 97 on metracritic.

Additionally, it's in the top 10 peak steam player count of all time, and has greatly outdone expectations financially.

Like it or hate it, it's been a massive success and is even the most pre-ordered game on PSN.

As a consumer I think it's important it's succeeded. I actually don't enjoy the game that much, but it has no microtransactions, the first act is really good/bug free, no battlepass, etc.

There's many more reasons, but that's just my opinion.

"That's not what everyone else has been saying." Do you mean the steam forums or the 800,000 other people playing and not paying attention to the minority of a minority that is the steam forums?
why is it important for it to sell well, what functionally changes about the game if it flops? cause i cannot imagine any of the things you state change even if it does bad, its still a turned based D&D game.

and this thread, my dude, obviously.

You're arguing functionality, but also asking "why it is important as a consumer."

I am only speaking to the consumer portion. I would much rather support a game that feels complete over battle pass/constant DLC nonsense. Additionally, I never expected CRPGs to be very popular, so that means we can expect more in the future (even if it's not from Larian).

I can't explain it much more clearly. Just re-read what I have written if you're still lost.

Even passing the almighty Zelda, all praise to Larian and BG3

looking at metacritic its actually a 9.3 on the score that matters: user score (and also by thousands, vs the 14 for metascore)

but also we're on steam and we can just use their system which shows 93%(it matches, woo) over 100k reviews.
User scores should be taken with a grain of salt, on the first page there's a 0 because of genital customisation.
In my experience, game reviews get a lot more accurate when you remove all 10's and 0's from the equation.

This can't be true.

Didn't all those geniuses make threads saying it would flop and that the wokey monster will eat it.
FissionChips 2023 年 8 月 9 日 下午 2:36
I think it's fitting.

2023 has been a good year so far for gaming.

Dead Space remake, Hogwarts Legacy, Metroid Prime remake, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, System Shock remake, Street Fighter 6, Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core 6, and Starfield.

Possibly Stalker 2 as well :steamhappy:

Yes! You know this game flopped because a guy got on the front page and got 30 awards (half of those being jester). You know they speak for everyone.

The casuals masses cant get enough of a super promoted extremely streamlined title with barely any depth to it, call the press... its exactly the 80% game I thought it would be and its all because they were forced to use the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 5e instead of a REAL ruleset.

Such a shame it would have been a 99.99% GOTYAY if made with the same budget and pathfinder.

Dude, for god's sake get out in the sunshine and start living your life. This stuff is not that important. I've played various forms of DnD etc since the late 1970s, pen and paper, computer, whatever. No-one cares what ruleset they use as long as the experience is fun and engaging. Some of the best pen and paper experiences I had when I was a kid was when we made it up as we went along.

Seriously, please, let it go, it doesn't matter.

Can anyone explain what this person's issue really is? What specifically is wrong with 5E?

There's nothing wrong with it. He just needs to get out more.

He just doesn't like it, and his opinion is as valid as anyone else's (although it's really aggressive and seems like it's genuinely upsetting to them lol).

There's nothing wrong with it for me, but to some people it may feel that way.

Hi I'm a noob and I love it. Starting to become a badass and I went down on that orc and she drained me dry. Probably rag the lot of them? Still only level 4, but my crew can handle themselves now. Yeah great game.

ah i get what your trying to say but sadly i do not think it matters.

this game doing well does not really mean anything to other games getting rid of loot boxes or battle passes, because this game doing well doesn't mean other people won't buy the games you would be condemning either, they both can do well and both will contuine to exist.

as for the popular remark: turn based rpgs have always been pretty insanely popular, even early day final fantasy games really took off, but even more recent games like pathfinder or pillars added in turn based features in their sequels.

sure, i dont deny that, but the same can be said about "official" reviews.

no matter what theirs gonna be a bias.

but whats more accurate, a 95% review by 14 people, or a 93% review by 2000 (for metacritic) or 100k for steam?

by and large when you start getting into the 10's of thousands of reviews your data can tell a good picture even with the extreme outliers.
