clothing counts as armor?

So. I got some uncommon clothing on gale, cuz I figured that wasn't consider armor but I haven't played with him since I put it on in my party til just now because I wanted a change in the way combat flowed so I swapped him in my party, and i just went to caste mage armor on him but it says he can't be armored? So clothing is armor?

Is it labeled clothing or is it labeled armor? Also is it camp clothing or regular?

Clothing and robes aren't armor. Have you equipped him with boots, gloves, or a helm? Sometimes those are classified as types of armor, which you can check by looking at the bottom of the tooltip when you hover over them.

Some "clothing" can be armor, if it goes in the armor slots. The item description should say light/medium/heavy armor if that's the case. Think "simple shoes vs leather boots vs plate greaves" etc
