Light or medium armour for warlocks?
Being a new player, I am curious to hear what people think about it. I can see it being beneficial on a melee focused warlock with the pact of the blade, but is it still worth the extra feat, if you´re primarily a caster?

Don't forget that there are also other ways to get the armour proficiency besides feats. Backgrounds for example, or a multiclass dip.

Depends on how much dexterity you have. 14 DEX is typically enough for most casters, since that's 15 AC with Mage Armor, or 16 AC with scale mail (if you are proficient in medium armor). If you invest more into DEX for the bonus AC, then you want light armor or no armor. Warlocks have an advantage in the no armor department since they can get an invocation that lets them cast Mage Armor without using one of their precious few spell slots.

However, if you would rather take other invocations and not have to spend a spell slot on Mage Armor, then 14 DEX with medium armor is the way to go. How you get medium armor is up to you. If your plan is to be a Bladelock, then 2 levels of fighter for medium armor, a fighting style and action surge will benefit you the most.

I made a Githyanki warlock to try this out, since Gith start with proficiency in some nice weapons/armor. It was nice, but not necessary. I still mostly blasted with Eldritch Blast. But I haven't gotten out of Act 1, so I can't speak for higher level.

If you are primarily an eldricht blast / spellcaster warlock the best armor for you is a robe halfway through the game.

Thank you for your input. It´s interesting that you get so much AC with mage armour now, which definitely wasn´t the case before lol. I really like these balance changes in 5ed so far, because I feel like they make different strategies and builds a lot more viable, and less punishable if you want to roleplay, and don´t care much about powergaming.

I’m just starting on the game but would you mind telling me what robe it is so I can keep an eye out for it?

You get it if you rescue the thieflings in act 2, so I suppose it's not available for some paths.
