That will all be up to modders.
You know I never thought about that. Thinking back on every larian game I've played aaaaaaaaall the way back at Fable, no DLC. Wait wait wait, does that mean there won't be any campaign expansions to cover the lack of L20? L12 is really the capstone here?
Day 1-3 and a whole slew of mods? Something's wrong. (This is what developers don't want to see.)
A week or two after release with maybe just one dozen? If the game's popular, the game's possibly holding the modders' current attention. (This is what developers should like to see even if they don't actively support it or even actively try to prevent it.)
A month after release with zero mods at all? Possibly nobody cares or it's a niche game that's done well enough to not need a mod. (This is what developers usually don't want to see if they expected a game to be super popular.)
A perfect popular game will still have someone with the skills making a change after a while. A great but niche game might not.
Yeah my bet'll be on a month or 2 before people start making some hard core mods. Though due to the nature of Larian coding, I don't expect a wide range of mods. Look at Divinity 2, modding is LIMITED but then you get stuff like the Toybox.
In it's nature DnD was meant to be "modded" and I feel like it's in the dev's best interest to make it mod friendly for longevity. If for nothing else than for players to add in the rest of the subclasses because DAMN are we limited with only Core stuff.
Well they have not ruled out an expansion I think they said but they are also not working on one as we speak, and if you think about it it makes sense BG1 is not going to 20, BG1 stopped at 8-9 depending on class/expansion & BG2 at 17-20, expansion to 2 took you to epic levels.
Yeah I do hope we get to see some end game. The main campaign ending at 12 is fine. It's accurate even! Almost no (prewritten) DnD campaign will ever carry a character to 20. That's usually what other campaigns are for. Still, coming off the back of Wrath of the Righteous which was like "yo you wanna go from 1 to 20 then become a god in a single campaign boo? I gotchu"
Unless Larian completely surprises everyone, then yes. What’s in this game is what’s there to play. They have a philosophy of “release a full game.” Ergo; no DLC/expansions.
Modders might help but it’ll be subpar compared to the devs. For many reasons.
Fable is Lionheart Studios and did have DLC...
Unless the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane Skyrim modders come over. Though Some of those reasons for a subpar modding experience could easily be lumped into the game's core coding and engine.
Actually you know what? This is fair. DnD has some weird balance when it comes to capstone skills. Getting to 20 might be unnecessary in the long run. I would like to see at least 16-18 though. Especially on a pure monk which arguable shines the most later in the game.
In 5e? Godlike? Maybe at 18-20 but I wouldn't say so at 13-17 unless you got some crazy minmax happening. 5e is definitely far less power scaled than 3.5... until you remember casters exist and their spell list makes me argument harder to carry. XD
