Do you let your Character do the most talking ?
I always start all convos with my Character or atleast most even when I often thought mhh starting that with one of the companions would have been better.
But I always feel weird about talking and using a companion to play because those are not my character and I play my character.
Do you mostly use your character for talking even when it means that you miss or fail some things or do you always switch to the companion that would be better suited for that ?

On my Wizard (which I play as a "I am him" playthrough); of course

on my Warlock and Sorc? Yes
on my Fighter and Druid? No
On my Ranger? Sometimes

It REALLY depends on what I think I'll need for the upcoming conversation

Absolutely. Feels really wierd when i accidentally start a convo with one of the companions.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the conversation always happens with your main character, but the abilities (stats) from the character you initiate with are used for the rolls. So it might be smart to initiate with the character that has the most charisma.

You are wrong. Whoever you have selected at the time does the talking. I'm pretty sure that their stats are the ones then used.
Yes, since he is the most charismatic.

For specific encounters related to a current party member, I switch control to that party member and start the convo. Sometimes, the game switches back to my main, though. In those cases, it often involves both the main and the character to whom I switched control.

There are convos that benefit with certain characters having them other than the main.

You're not the only one :-P
Why do you think all CHAR-based classes were among the most played classes at launch?!
Speaking of which ... why exactly is the active character that's initiating conversations NOT using any lines but "mute"? It's one of the few truely immersion breaking things.

Or do I happen to experience a bug in my playthrough?

I'm a high Charisma Paladin, so yeah

Mostly, always start conversations as my main character. They actually did a good job of including dialogue options that are varied based on your main character's class/race/skills, so there is an upside to doing that rather than just worrying about "which character has the best charisma".

I plan to play through the game more than once, so I'd rather see different sides of the dialogues than worry about getting the 'best' options.

In my first playthrough, where I chose to play as Karlach, there have been an absolute metric ton of dialogue options specific to her barbarian/tieflilng nature.

my MC has had Charisma so normally, unless I think someone might have better dialog like having Astarion talk with the scammer kid.

Yes. Because all of the origin characters are either:
1) Dead
2) Left in camp to make my sandwiches.

Uh what? Are you saying that your conversation starter doesnt actually speak or have any subtitles?

Yes. It's my story, everyone else is just along for the ride.
