Consequences of evolving the Avatar?

I am at the point in the game where I can make the decision to "evolve" into Half-Ilithid . I am wondering what would be the consequences of that down the line?

It will ♥♥♥♥ up your stats.. Not worth unless you are a spellcaster

I did it lol and i assume i will become i mindflayer at some point if i leave it to emperor to control the brain

You'll unlock the outer layer of the Illithid skills and you'll look a little different. A big advantage is that jumping distance is no longer a real issue, because you can fly.

i didn't find more tadpoles (only 2 on my 20h gameplay to this moment)... but up to where i've played,the only power i've trully used was the big push thingy. super usefull to end bossfights early (shame we lose the loot on the boss if we push them down the cliff, but hey... i'll take an easy win any time)

Spoilers you can actually eventually go full Ilithid if you want to and it's a precursor to that.
Mechanic wise it unlucks new powers for you.
Not sure what story consequences half-ilithid has though.

I failed the check and was forced to evolve. I talked all my companions into it and played like that for a couple hours, then realized I don't want Shadowheart to be ugly so I reloaded the save before I evolved and crushed the tadpole instead.

Havent tried it but i assume you could since its a plot point
