Okay, so I got up this morning and wrote this comment on another Discussion here just 20 minutes ago while eating breakfast and now I just booted up the game.

The first thing that happens is that Gale wants me to go somewhere "more suitable for a private conversation". I was like "Okay, I'll bite. Maybe he wants to share some secret with me. Let's see if we can just do something fun as friends. He has already acknowledged that I'm with Shadowheart, surely we can just hang out without him hitting on me?".

So we go to the private place he mentioned and my character sits down veeery close to him. Gale says something about "the fantasy of lovers" and my character and Gale look each other in the eyes with extremely suggestive smiles...

Also, my character ended up in a similar position with Wyll just yesterday when i joined him for his dance (which didn't even look like a romantic situation to begin with since they were just twirling around with a lot of distance between each other). It didn't take long for Wyll to suggest a more "intimate dance". I thought that I might as well try since it would be fun if my character would learn to dance in order to impress women. Guys can bond over that. Nope, they both ended up veeery close looking deeply into each other's eyes.

There is LITERALLY no platonic relationships in this game. Every character is just trying to bang you, even after you have already started a relationship with another character... of a different gender, no less! This seriously undermines any friendly feelings I might have for the guys in my party since they keep giving me these invitations. And if all special interactions are romantic interactions, avoiding the romantic interactions almost means not interacting with or getting to know a character at all. It's great that the main character can romance any companion, now we don't need mods for that like with Dragon Age! But (to me) it feels like the characters now feel really weird and unrealistic since they want to get with you every opportunity that they get. And if you are the same gender as them, it's really immersion-breaking since the whole scenario is pretty implausible and weird.

It reminds me of a friend I hung out with when I was in New York a few years ago. He is gay but even though he knew I was straight, he kept dropping passive flirtatious lines. He has since told me he regrets it and I didn't really mind at all but, at the time, I felt like I couldn't really bond with him as friends since I got the feeling that he had an underlying agenda or that he might get the wrong idea if I just relaxed and enjoyed myself. And you do get sort of frustrated when it keeps happening even though you have already established that you're just not into that and that it's not "them".

Honestly, having one character that keeps doing this would be kind of fun (looking at you, Astarion) but EVERY. SINGLE. MALE. CHARACTER...? It's WEIRD. I no longer blame anyone complaining about the gay relationships in this game, they're really weird!

I'm glad there's diversity in the game but I don't want "diversity" to mean that I'm incapable of forming friendships because everyone just wants to bang me!

it's true though. i had to deny all the guys, but all the women you won't flirt with you and you need to work for their love. for example i never fed Gale but he wanted sleep with me lol and that was is 2nd time talking to him. act 1! i don't mind astarion flirting cause he seems like that person would suck anyone's blood by flirting.

i didn't have a chance see wyll flirt with me since i killed the druids.

This game is made to be posible to get a romance option wich every companion. If you remember some other RPG like Dragon Age Inquisition, if you are a man you canot romance some companions. If you are a woman you wont romance the other companions. So I think that a game that allows you to romance the companion you want is a hit. For example Gale will romance you whatever you are a man or a woman. Thats it.

You clearly did literally zero reading. Wyll and Gale are very platonic with my male Barbarian. Such a gargantuan effort to simply say no and covert it into *gasp* a platonic relationship which you so wrongly claim is incapable

It is homophobic to lie and say you can't have a platonic relationship with the characters and that it's forcing a romantic relationship and declare there's an agenda or forced wokeness so the game is bad when you can opt out easily.

Yes, I had the same problem. All male characters, and on the female side, Karlach wanted something from me. I am a nice guy, so Wyll tried to dance with me, and you have no polite way to decline his offer. It is: Yes my dear, or Ugh, go away. I would find it nice that there were options to just say: Let us simply be friends.

That's because apart from Lae'zel ( and possibly the drow, I have no clue as she's dead ) the women don't. Shadowheart offers to drink with you once, and Karlach says once she'd like to ride you til you see stars, then immediately apologizes and says that was crass and unfair to tease.

Look, you can screech 'muh homophobes' all you want, the fact is that every male character in this game is a shameless ♥♥♥♥♥ and only the females are treated with any nuance and tact. It's not game-breaking by any means, you can literally throw Astarion and Gale off a cliff if they get too much, but it's just DUMB. I turned Astarion down, twice, and now he's perpetually angry at me and always dropping snide comments, no lie. And Wyll went all emo cuz I didn't dance with him. Multiple people are confirming this, this isn't just some trolling, it's for real. And Gale, well, Gale won't take a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hint.

The thing is guys are pretty stereotypical with their 'bromances', as in close hetero friendships. You can't be buddies with any of the male characters in this game like Shepard and Garrus in ME, or better yet like Dorian in DA: Inquisition. If you turn him down, he legit becomes your best bro. I LOVED his character with my male Inquisitor because they had so many good lines and exchanges, and none of it was sexual or awkward. What Larian gave us is just BAD WRITING.

The funniest part to me is that they made a big deal about hiring someone specifically to work on romances, and the best they could come up with to defend that paycheck is 'men wanna hump you'?

The game TELLS you every time the scene transfers to something intimate. You even mentioned it yourself. Wyll offers an intimate dance after a normal one. You can just refuse him and your relationship tranfers to a platonic one. Christ almighty you are literally the closeted gay from the memes who has sex with other dudes to "just check it out" and then screams about how gay is bad. You chose the romance option in a game and act upset that there is romance later. It's so stupid, I can't actually believe some of you take this seriously and are not just trolling.

Shadowheart has already told me that she wants sexy times when we get back to camp next time and that I'm her soulmate, that she's never felt this way about anyone and that I've changed her for the better as a human being and I've not even done the goblin camp in act 1 yet.

Lae'zel has said something about wanting to lick my skin in a flirty way (despite sort of hating me).

I'm playing as Karlach so can't comment on her.
