Going to the lair, in the cage room, sneak to and down the right side and you won't draw agro, there's a room you can stick the rest of your party in (Close the door after).
Carry on sneaking round the right and you'll see an orange control orb, here you want to jump over the small ledge (If you walk, you'll path around and agro the hag, use the control orb and the cage will be lowered and opened. Here it's up to you, I'm playing a paladin so I just sanc'd myself and pulled agro, dashed to the room with my party, opened the door (the reason why you close it so the illusions don't wreck your party) and closed it behind me, controlled the choke point, killed the illusions, killed the hag and job done.
your edited describtion sounds realy buggy
did you do the "uninstall the EA version and EA saves"-thing before starting the full release?
i did the fight in the main room (before Ethel first runs away), without issue
i did the follow-along line without issue
i did the gotroughEthelsBSmaze and do the "real" bossfight downstrairs (throw water bottels at the cage/and or lower the cage) without issue
but the game is very prone to glitches and very buggy, so who knows
i'd load up an earlier save and do the quest the "standart" way, aka let Ethel run in her den

I will also put this link in the OP.
Also, I did not have any leftovers from EA. I deleted the game, the folder in Users, etc. Followed Larian's instructions to the letter.
I've done this many times in EA, but it no longer works.
- Take Gale in your party, he MUST have Magic Missiles as prepared spell.
- Detach him and let him go to the right while your party goes to the left, then trigger the encounter with him. The Hag will spawn closer to your allies.
- Use Magic Missilies to dispatch the illusions of the Hag: they have only 1 HP, and the spell cannot miss. While doing this, move him to the control switch of the cage while your party hits the Hag hard. Repeat if the Hag creates more clone.
- When the cage goes down, move Gale closer to her: for some reason, this will give her courage to make that 0.5 mt step outside of it.
- Slap the ♥♥♥♥ out of what's left of that ugly wench.
- Go inside the house with Mayrina to have tea and scones with the deranged frog.
- ???
- Profit
I did that with the Drow commander at the goblin camp.
My first reaction was "Hell yeah, easy combat", but after a second I went to "Wait a m... MY LOOT?!!!"
Also, since I was an EA of the game, I knew having her beg for mercy had outcomes that I wanted to take. So no pushy pushy, just smashy smashy with the Hot (literally) barbarian chick and her greataxe.
Legit just did this quest with some mates and it ended hilariously, one turn before the cage would have given out between our 3 hamster brains we realized we should try use water to put out the fire which worked. Then after we beat the hag, we were in hot debate in whether to give up Mayrina for the points or not, luckily the one that initiated dialogue had the required class to intimidate for both Mayrina and the bonus. After we looted as we left I spoke to her and had the option to use a wand we found to try fulfill the Hags promise of bringing him back. Dude came back as a mangled zombie and with one of us being having a focus on Necromancy we decided to keep him, which left her in a state haha.
Still kinda mad I didn't get to kill the Hag though, she was wretched.
Also I had a use for my conjuration Gale making water! (It felt most fitting for RP)
